Baseball – do I BLOG about much else?

We played the Lou Gehrig Ironhorses yesterday afternoon in a double-header.  It was a team that we should have been able to defeat, however…  The first game wasn’t too bad, we made a few errors but in general it was a good game.  Then we had the second game.  We made NO LESS than 8 errors in the game – yes, 8.

I am not sure of ANY team that could win a ball game after making 8 errors and at one point we actually held a lead.

We haven’t had enough games to build up arm strength as yet for pitching and, apparently, other positions either.  We also haven’t practiced in what seems like an age.  We have a double-header this Wednesday and a practice on Thursday that I’ve added – we need it, big time.  I am hoping that we’ll get some diamond time in Niagara Falls.

We are heading to Kingston this weekend.  We don’t play on Friday night which is sort of nice except it screws up my pitching a bit.  If we end up playing 6 games in total then I don’t think we’ll have enough pitching for Sunday.  We’ll see I guess.  We play at 8am, 4pm and 8pm on Saturday so I am sure that will turn out to be a long day.

Wish us some luck – we can use some.  🙂

Finishing my move…

I am going to finish my move this morning.  I still have a LOT of stuff in the old place that I have to get over to the new place.  I should be doing that now, instead, as per usual, I am stalling.  I have a Master’s degree in Procrastination.  I am working towards my Doctorate but it will likely take me some time to get that.

So, as soon as I get my ass in gear, I will move the rest of my junk.  I also have to finish my unpacking.  Yes, I know – I am not done.  I’ve been here for 3 weeks.  I am BAD, I’ll admit it.

We have a double-header this afternoon.  It is the first baseball in what seems like forever.  We play the Lou Gehrig Ironhorses, not exactly sure where they are from – somewhere in Western New York anyway.  I am hoping that they aren’t a team full of giant 14 year olds – we’ll see.

We are still missing a few players today – I think we will have 11 at the games.  I am also missing a few coaches, there will only be two of us there today.

Well, I am going to go and start my move.  No really, I am.

Nothing much to report …

Nothing new to report really.  Still off of work, getting bored – I will be going back on Monday which is when the doctor has told me I can go back.

No baseball again today, another day off.  We practice tomorrow evening and then have a double-header on Sunday.  We are in Kingston next weekend which should be good.

I have decided that I am not going to play softball this summer.  I don’t think that I would have the time to dedicate to it.  I also really don’t want to have to go out after games for a mandatory drink or anything like that – not my style.  So, I emailed the girl that I work with (never met her, I don’t think) and told her that I won’t be able to play.  I will return the glove that I purchased at Buckner’s today – will put that money into my gas tank I guess eh.

Love the new Jeep – what a vehicle.  This is by the far the best one that I have ever had.  I don’t start paying for it until the end of the month.  I am getting a hitch put on it tomorrow morning and then will be off to Bingo.  Fun, fun, fun.

Well, gotta start the day – enjoy yours.

Baseball in the US

Well, the Treasurer has stepped down.  Big surprise there.  I’ll sort of miss her – we had a hate-hate relationship.

We played over the in the US tonight and got smacked around, lost 17-5 or something similar in 5 innings – not pretty.  We hit not too badly, defence wasn’t very good though.  We made too many errors, yet again.  We can’t seem to find a decent 3rd baseman although tonight they weren’t too bad.  The SS position was a problem tonight, 3 errors in total.  I am not sure what the real issue is there – not taking enough time perhaps…  Bouncing the ball to the first baseman – irritating.

Anyway, I filled up in the US – $57 to fill, would have likely been $80-$90 here so that’s a nice saving.  Had dinner at Granny Apples or something like that, it is in Lewiston – not bad meal at all.

We now have a few days off of baseball – practice on Saturday and then double-header on Sunday.

Baseball update…

We used the batting cage and backyard at one of my coaches places last evening – had a really good batting cage session.  They also have a pool and several of the guys went for a quick dip.

I am hoping that the BP session will help the guys for tonight’s game.  At Saturday’s practice we will concentrate on defensive plays.  We have a LOT to cover, that’s for sure.  I am hoping that we’ll have a successful season – we just have some work to do.

We play over the river tonight against a team that I know nothing about.  I will post something about the game this evening.

I am having a mini issue with SCMBA over my team funding and my budget.  In looking at the budget items, it will be tight.  We will need to do some additional fundraising for sure.

A slow Monday …

I’ve turned off anonymous comments from this blog.  I was getting messages from bots (or whatever they are) ALL the time and it was getting irritating.  All ads and what not and I had to approve all of them or decide that they were garbage.  So, I’ve make it that you have to register to comment, not a biggie.

Was off today.  Not sure when I will be back – hopefully Wednesday.  Can’t really comment further.

New Jeep is amazing.  Love it.

Blondie is getting better, I think.  Zeus is still a good dog.  I am nearly done unpacking and then there will be less “stuff” for Blondie to get into.  I think that I will pick up a baby gate tomorrow.  I want to keep her upstairs if that’s where I am and downstairs if I am there.

They are barking and clawing to get in – better go…

Error after error…

We played a double-header yesterday afternoon.  Over the two games, I think we made a total of 11 errors.  You can’t win many games when you make that many errors.  We tried 3 or 4 players at third base AND each one of the players that we tried made an error on their first attempt – insane.  So, I guess what I mean is that I am still looking for a starting 3rd basemen and a backup.  NS may be the player of choice – yeah, that could work.  He is my backup catcher right now so that could work.

Anyway, as I said, error after error and, not surprisingly, we lost both games.  The opponent, Niagara Jr. Power from Niagara Falls, New York hit the ball well and hit our gaps constantly.  We hit the ball pretty well ourselves, unfortunately, we hit it RIGHT at a player and they didn’t make many errors at all.

So, we have some work to do.  Batting cage sessions this week, tomorrow actually. We have a game on Wednesday and then a practice Saturday followed by a double-header @ home on Sunday.

Our next tournament is Father’s Day Weekend which is less than 2 weeks from now – wow, how time flies.

Provincial Election – Ontario turns BLUE !!!

I received a phone call from JR who ran RD’s campaign this past spring.  He apparently tried to leave me a voice mail message but my voice mail is full – oh well, I don’t like messages anyway…

He’s been asked to run the Provincial election campaign in the Welland riding after Peter Cormos announced that he will NOT be seeking re-election.  That surprised me, the Cormos thing, not JR being asked.  He’s excellent.

Anyway, he wants me to be the “Dave” for the Welland riding.  That means that I get to run all of the “technology” stuff for the campaign – pretty cool.  Can I handle it?  Of course I can.

Anyway, as soon as baseball is done it’ll be right into the campaign for me which will make for an excellent transition to my winter hibernation.

Not rained out again, are we?

Double header this afternoon at Alex McKenzie Park.  I hope that the diamond was worked by the City last night and this morning so that it is playable, not a typical City response of, “all diamonds are closed until June 14” – that is a random date since, from what I can figure out, they choose a random date and shove it down our throats.  I REALLY hope that we are done with all this damn rain – come on now, where are the typical hot and dry summers?

We were rained out yesterday.  I can’t imagine when we will be able to make those two games up.  That is a total of four games that have been rained out in the BOS league.  Not a good start.  It also REALLY sucks that the team drove all the way to the US of A which likely took 45 minutes to an hour and then played three innings and had to come home.  I didn’t end up making the try seeing as my vehicle purchase was “slightly” delayed.

Oh well, wish us luck for the day.

PC Financial

So, as I was told by PC Financial last evening, the cheque for $6500 that was deposited into my account cleared after midnight – good news.

I go to the Shopper’s Drug Mart on Carlton Street this morning to get a money order for $4925 to cover the down-payment of the Jeep.  No dice.  The woman working at the postal outlet is from another planet, so, after watching her fumble and mumble for 15 minutes, I decide to go elsewhere (another SDM) for the money order.

I get to the one on Lakeport Road.  No problem doing the money orders (yes, multiple, the maximum amount that they can be for is $999.99 each – no biggie).  They try to run $4925 + 2.50 per money order through as a debit purchase – the bank (again, PC Financial) assured me that this would be OK and it comes back as declined – over limit.

So, I call the 800 number and talk to someone who asks me a number of security style questions and apparently get them all correct.  She indicates that it will be a 10 minute wait to speak with a supervisor.  OK, sure, I’m not in a hurry (where is the sarcasm font when you need it).  He comes on and immediately, has an attitude issue.  He won’t allow me to go over my daily limit (of $1000) – why?  I am not really sure, perhaps it is because he’s an asshole.  I lose it on him a bit and he apologizes but says that there is nothing that he can do.  Now, let me remind you that I have had an account with PC Financial for a number of years…

Anyway, I ask to speak with his supervisor.  He indicates that he IS a supervisor, so, I ask, do you NOT have a supervisor?  He does and he can ask this person to give me a call on Tuesday or Wednesday.  Again, I lose it and slam the phone down…

I decide to drive to the Zehr’s (sp?) at the Fairview Mall and see what they can do.  Well, this young lady is MORE than helpful.

She gets on the line with PC Financial and within 5 minutes the debit purchase is cleared and I am on my way.

The Jeep is now in my driveway and it looks awesome.  🙂

I have a decision to make.  Do I leave PC Financial and go to CIBC where I will get charged $13 per month or do I stick it out with PC Financial?  I guess it will depend on whether or not I can get holds removed from my account when I deposit cheques.

Enough on that…

I didn’t make it over to the States today to coach.  It started to rain, pretty damn hard and the games were cancelled.  It is going to be tough to reschedule.  We have a double header tomorrow, hopefully Alex McKenzie Park will dry out by then.  Wish us (and the park) luck.
