New Wrangler TODAY !!!

I checked my bank account, the cheque that I deposited for the Jeep has cleared.  AWESOME !!!  This means that in a couple of hours I will get a money order for the new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and in 3 hours (or so), it’ll be mine !!!

I think I may have said this before, not sure, but, I am like a kid on Christmas morning.  The new Jeep is amazing.

After that, I am heading to the US of A for a double-header against Team New Era Gold – sure to be a tough contest.

Gotta finish moving (and unpacking) at some point this weekend as well, it never ends, does it?

14u Giants I think …

Well, that was an interesting game tonight.  We played the A-Turf Titans 14u club.  Wow, they were enormous to say the least.  Fourteen year old kids that were my size?  Please, what are they feeding them?

Anyway, we didn’t actually play all that badly but we got our asses handed to us.  It ended in 5 innings 10-0.  We got a total of 5 base runners, 2 walks and 3 singles.  Not pretty.

I also had to take two players out of the game.  One wasn’t feeling well, he looked green to me.  Another was spiked at second base.  They will both be fine.

We play a double header tomorrow against New Era Gold (in the US) and then another double header at home on Sunday – that’s one hell of a lot of baseball.

Wish us luck.

Shut up, this is the last time I will tell you…

As my readers know, I coach baseball.  I’ve been coaching baseball for years now, longer than I care to remember.

I am coaching an excellent group of 15 year olds this year, Major Bantams they are.  One of the grandparents on the team is a complete and utter, useless ass hole.  He keeps emailing me stupid, empty suggestions and comments normally putting down myself, my staff and my players – all of the players with the exception of his grandson.

His grandson is a good player – they all are good players.  They all make mistakes and I do believe that they all give the team 100%.  This particular gentleman (and I use that term VERY loosely) doesn’t see any of that – he sees nothing – he’s an ignorant, arrogant prick and I am done with him.

I really hope that he doesn’t email me again.  I hope that he doesn’t come to the park again although I doubt it, he’ll be back and he’ll likely offer his useless advice.

I don’t actually hate most people, although one might think I do – I don’t, really.  I don’t hate this guy but I am getting close.

All the best to you sir – live out your miserable life and leave me out of it.

Baseball Wrap-up

My ball team played last night against the Westerkirk Royals from Oakville last night.  This is the same team that came down and played my Major Peewees last summer, we were a 13u club and they were a 14u club – they pounded us into the ground.

So, I contacted the coach a few weeks ago and scheduled another game.  It started out really well, we held a 4-1 lead going into the 6th and weren’t even playing a perfect game by any means.  My team also uses wood and they had metal which will sometimes offer an advantage.

I was a bit short on pitching last night.  My boys have been heavily playing high school baseball and those coaches seem to be clueless when it comes to saving arms, they simply either don’t care or have no idea…  My intended starter wasn’t able to start, he’s done a lot of pitching in the last few days so I went to another starter – he lastes 2 2/3 innings which isn’t all that bad.  My second pitcher did quite well and pitched a little over 3 innings and we held the lead until the 6th when they broke through for a bunch of runs to take a 6-4 lead.  We chipped away and scored one and then the flood gates opened.

We made a few errors and didn’t execute other plays and ended up losing the 9 inning contest 14-4 or something around there – in the 9th inning I ended up using 2 pitchers (or was it 3) and we couldn’t get any outs so we scrubbed the game after they bat through the order.

I’m not disappointed mind you, the Royals are an Elite level club and a damn good one at that – they would be considered AAA where we are an A club.

On the Jeep front, I will get that tomorrow.  I am looking forward to it, very nice vehicle.  More to come on that one.

New Jeep

I decided that I didn’t like the financing options for my new Jeep.  They (TD Financial) wanted a down payment of $5100 for it – I thought that was insane.  So, I called the dealer where I am buying the Jeep and told him that and said that if he wasn’t able to do anything about it, I would cancel the deal.

Low and behold, a new deal was struck and I now require NO down payment – that’s what I’m talking about.  🙂

So, I go in this morning to sign for the new Jeep – not sure when I will get it, should be soon.

My baseball team played last night versus the Niagara Falls Bantam Falcons – it was a great game and we broke it open in the 6th inning after scoring a run by stealing home in a run-down situation – we actually got a few breaks from the Niagara Falls umpires, that has never happened before and I’d expect that I will have to wait another 12 years before it happens again.

Anyway, we ended up winning 5-1 on a solid pitching and defensive performance on our end.  We do need to work on our hitting – hitting is always a weakness in St. Catharines, mind you, most of my players are from other centres…  Oh well, some sort of curse I presume.

I am off today – not by my choice.  Better not say too much, certain people might be reading. LOL – I’d say that some people need to get a life, but that’s just what I think – there are ALL kinds of those people in the world, aren’t there.  Oh well, he’ll get his, bank on that.

Out.

Clean bill of health (for Blondie)

OK, the new place is shaping up, sort of.  DB came over last night and assisted with putting together my Ikea cube shelf.  It was actually much easier than either of us thought it would be.  It is in the kitchen which isn’t the best place for it but it works – it is flat against the wall.  I was considering using it as a room divider between the living room and the dining room but that wasn’t going to work out.  Now all I have to do is unpack my stuff and load it up.

I got home early yesterday, 1:20 or so and discovered that I had no cable tv, phone nor internet access.  I called Cogeco and their recording indicated that they were experiencing issues in some parts of St. Catharines – I figured it would be resolved shortly.  I go about my business and when I got home, still nothing so I call Cogeco.  Turns out that they had a disconnect order for my address – not sure how that happened, perhaps it was the former tenants who were here, not sure.  Anyway, it was too late for a tech to resolve it last night so they are supposed to be here today to reconnect me – fun…  Anyway, I was off from baseball last evening and it was supposed to be my evening to catch up on emails, etc – ummm, no, didn’t happen.  I don’t like composing long emails on my HTC.

The reason that I was home early yesterday was to take Blondie to the vet.  She got a clean bill of health all around and, I was happy to find out, good hips as well which is excellent.  She is already up to 22.2 lbs which is 7 more than I estimated her at.  I need to buy a scale for home one of these days, both for myself and my dogs.

Busy week with baseball this week, 7 games in 6 days.  We are supposed to be out in Chippewa this evening, doubt that the diamond will be ready but I guess we’ll see.  I can’t locate another park anyway so if Chippewa isn’t good we might be off – may be able to go to AN Myer again, their diamond and field are good – we’ll see.

Tournament Update

I received a call in the morning on Saturday, somewhere around 8:40am from the Convenor of the Tournament in Niagara Falls.  He didn’t have good news – the Tournament was being cancelled due to bad park conditions in Thorold and Chippawa.  Oakes Park was fine though.  Did he consider contacting St. Catharines, Welland or any of the other Associations to see if any of them had any diamond time, so, the tournament was cancelled.

I received a second call about 45 minutes later from a coach from Mansfield, the team that we were supposed to play at noon wondering if we wanted to play an exhibition game.  Sure, I said – I contacted the team and told them we were back on for noon.

Well, I get back to the park and a coach from North York had arranged a mini-tournament with the 7 teams that were remaining.  Where was Niagara Falls in all of this, other than saying “sure”, use Oakes Park, it took a coach from North York to arrange the tournament – that’s a bit insane.  The Convenor was around the park but didn’t do too much.

Anyway, we ended up playing a total of 3 games, 3:15pm, 7:15pm and 9:15pm.  Good games they were as well.  We defeated Milton in one of the best games that I have ever coached in.  We got the 3rd out at the plate (tying run) in the bottom of the last inning (5th maybe).  In the 2nd game, we played Aurora and lost 4-1, but, on a positive note after a bad 1st inning where we gave up 4 runs we were perfect – the boys played excellently.  In the night-cap, we easily defeated a select club from Mansfield, the team with the coach who originally contacted me.

So, with what could have been a bad weekend turned into something pretty good actually.  Three games, $120 from the team account and 2 wins – not too shabby.

I’ve coached for a LONG time and this team, without a doubt is the most talented club that I’ve ever had the honour of coaching.  They listen, are respectful and they WANT to play.  I am going to enjoy this year, that’s for sure.

Rain, rain go away …

Guess what…  The first game of the first tournament has been rained out.  Well, technically, it wasn’t raining.  Actually, it was a pretty nice day yesterday, BUT, the fields apparently were a mess.

So, we play our regularly scheduled games today (noon and 3pm) and then we make up yesterday’s game tomorrow morning @ 9am.  The only real issue there is that if we make the semi’s and then the final, we could end up with 3 games on Sunday which is tough to do.  We’ll survive though…

I have sold my Jeep.  I am not sure that I particularly like the deal that I got, but, I’ve sold it.  I’ve also sold my Grand Prix, although I am still driving it.  I am in the process of purchasing a 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.  It is black with a black roof and looks AMAZING.  I hope that the financing goes though, it should…

Well, I will update on the tournament.  Wish us luck.

Niagara Falls, here we come…

Tomorrow, well, later today we play in our first OBA Tournament of the 2011 season.  We are travelling ALL the way to Niagara Falls.  We play all of our games at Oakes Park as well which is awesome.  I just hope that the rain that we’ve gotten the past few days won’t turn the park into a lake.

Wish us luck – I am sure that I’ll report on what happens…

I’m getting there

My office is just about setup which is a good thing.  I am using my 32″ LCD TV as a computer display which is VERY cool.  The only thing is that I have just on-board video and I am stuck in a pretty low 1024 x 768 resolution.  I hope to bump that up when I connect a newer computer.  I am also planning on using a 2nd LCD display, this time a 23″ as the second monitor.

I still have quite a bit of work to do in the living room / dining room / kitchen.  I am SO slow in getting started…  Oh well, it will get done.

My baseball team FINALLY got together last night for the first time in a week.  We had a practice at 2pm and it was a decent practice.  We then played the Minor Midget’s and got killed, killed with extreme prejudice.  Oh well, the boys just weren’t on is all AND we didn’t have two of our top pitchers.  We made a number of errors in the outfield and infield, wasn’t pretty.  My 3rd string catcher also couldn’t block a baseball if his life depended on it, sort of funny in a way.

We have our first tournament this coming weekend in Niagara Falls.  We play Friday @ 3:30pm then @ noon on Saturday then 3pm on Saturday.  If we qualify, we’ll play a game or two on Sunday.  Best of luck boys !!!
