Sunday morning blahs…

You have to love weather forecasts.  I checked the weather last night.  It indicated that there was a ZERO percent chance of rain today (Sunday).  I woke up at 5:30 this morning and there was a thunder storm and rain…  Hmmm…  It must be nice being in a job that you can be wrong more often than not and still get paid, quite well too.

Anyway, I don’t think that we’ve received enough rain to wash out our ball games tonight, we don’t play for another 8 hours (a little less than 8 actually).  I am sure that the City will get Community Park into shape.

I spent part of the morning playing some video games.  I am playing The Clone Wars – not too bad actually.  Some of it is a little challenging but I suppose that it is designed that way.

I think I am hitting the flea market with Joan shortly.  I am not quite sure though, I think we are going.  Waiting for a phone call.

Wish us luck for tonight – both on the weather cooperating and on us winning.

Long weekend, nothing going on…

It is Friday, it’s a long weekend – not that a long weekend matters to me at the moment…

We have a batting cage session in Welland tonight at Memorial Park.  Nothing planned for tomorrow, it was supposed to be my house warming party, but that’s been cancelled.

We have our final double-header on Sunday evening at Community Park.  I’ve called up two Minor Bantams to fill out my roster – I am missing a bunch of players.

I am thinking about actually finishing my unpacking today, wouldn’t that be a good idea.  I’ve been here nearly 2.5 months and I still have boxes in my living room, pretty bad I know.  Oh well.

Maybe I will see if J&D want to drop by Rib Fest if it isn’t too hot, enjoy the long weekend.

Baseball Update

My ball team played a double-header last night in Orchard Park, New York.  We didn’t play particularly well.  I asked the guys who wanted to start the game and a player who typically is a relief pitcher.  He struggled as a starter, gave up 9 runs in 1/3 of an inning.  He threw more pitches in that 1/3 of an inning than he normally does in 2-3 innings of relief – I guess some players aren’t supposed to be starters, that’s all.

We made a slight come-back and ended up losing 15-8.  The second game was rough as well.  We lost it 10-0 in 5 innings.  I didn’t use my #1 starter in either of the two games seeing as he had pitched on both Saturday and Sunday and my #2 and #3 starters were not there.  Fun.

We have a practice tonight.  I don’t expect it to be well attended, I just have that feeling.  I could be wrong.  We play our last regular season double-header this Sunday night against an American team, Lou Gehrig Reds.  I will be missing a crap-load of players.  Pitching will be at a premium for sure.  I am going to call up two guys from the Minor Bantam squad if I can, we will need them as I think I only have 8 of 14 coming.

After Sunday we have three weeks off.  I will likely enjoy the time off as well as hate the time off – it might get a little boring.  I am sure that we will do something in the off-time, I am sure that players will be around.

The Provincial Championships will be on the Labour Day Weekend in Brantford.  We are going to AA as opposed to A (in Sault Ste. Marie) as a money saver.  SSM would have cost each family over $1000 for the weekend I am sure.  We can travel back and forth to Brantford.  I may camp in Brantford which would be pretty good, I do enjoy camping.

Well, a bit of TV before practice and a bite to eat.  I am out.

Politics and Baseball

I went to my first PC Nomination Meeting last evening.  There was a good crowd, about 200 people I’d guess.

The candidate that I voted for won – I really wasn’t sure who to vote for, however.  It will be a tough battle to knock Bradley out of his long time grip on St. Catharines.  I think that there is a fair amount of hatred of the Liberals in Ontario so I am hopeful that this will turn into a win for the PC’s, both here and across Ontario.  We will know on October 6.

We have our last double header in the States tonight against the Orchard Park Thunder.  I have no idea how good they are, I also have no idea which team I will be bringing to the US – the good team or the team that I occasionally see that has no idea on how to play the game of baseball.  We play at 6pm and 830pm (or so) so it’ll be a bit cooler which will be good.

We only have one more double-header in the Boys of Summer League after tonight, Sunday at home.  Well, not really home since it is at Community Park.  We are missing a bunch of players for that game so it’ll be a bit more interesting I guess.  What drives me nuts is that we have the first three weeks of August off and I have people that are away this week – I suppose that signing a letter of commitment doesn’t mean a lot to some.

Anyway, as per usual, wish us luck.

Lots of baseball this weekend

We have a double-header tomorrow and another on Sunday in the States. Cheap American gas and some Cherry Coke Zero will be coming home with me.  The Canadian dollar is doing quite well against the US, it is a good time to go over.

Hopefully we will play well.  I am sure that the competition will be a bit better than what we’ve seen recently over on this side of the ditch.  We’ll see.

J&D will take Zeus and Blondie out for a bit in the afternoon for me – it is nice having good relatives. D doesn’t like Zeus and J doesn’t like Blondie – it’s a shame that they can’t be loved by both…  LOL

Wish us luck for the weekend.

It’s a hot one…

Lots has happened in the last few days.

I can’t necessarily comment on some of the events of the last few days..  In time, I will be able to comment.

Damn hot one out there today.  The temp hit around 37 Celsius today, mid to upper 40’s with the humidity.  AC is a wonderful invention.

Two double-headers this weekend in the US.  Our Boys of Summer season is winding down.  We have a total of 8 games left in BOS and then we have a few weeks off before a final push at the Provincial Championships in Brantford.

Enjoy the weekend.

Tandem Lead

J&D gave me (lent me?) a tandem lead for the dogs plus a standard choke collar for Blondie yesterday.  I had them (Zeus and Blondie that is) over there so that they could play in the backyard and use the pool.  The pool is a 4′ wide, 2′ deep plastic pool that Blondie seems to love – she splashes around and has a great time.

Anyway, I tried out the tandem lead this morning on our walk – didn’t work out too badly.  The dogs don’t really pull on it and they walk pretty nicely together, likely because if they pull they pull on each others chokers and they don’t like that.  They got confused and twisted together a couple of times but for a first outing, not bad at all.

We have been going out really early, prior to 5:30 in the morning to beat the heat – the sun isn’t up as yet so it is cool – yeah, that’s what we’ll call it, cool – it is actually 21 right now.  It is expected to go to 31 today and perhaps as high as 36 tomorrow.  I hope that we don’t lose power…

Looking forward to September and cooler weather, that’s for sure.  Enjoy.

Dundas Tournament Update

We played an excellent game in Dundas in the semi-final.  It was the top of the 7th inning, we intentionally loaded the bases (with one out) so that we could cause a force at home.  All was going to plan when a ground ball was hit to the shortstop who was ready to scoop it up and throw home.  Well, just before he was able to field it the ball hit something, not sure what and it bounced up and over the shortstops head (by about 10 feet) and out into left centre field – two runs scored which turned out to be the winning runs.

Our starting pitcher threw an amazing game – he pitched 5 2/3 innings (I think) and struck out 10 – not bad outing at all.

We ended up losing the game 6-4, easier to swallow than the two previous tournaments where we lost 2-1 in both semi-finals.  I am hoping that we can get over the top in our next one which would be the Provincial Championships.

Baseball is winding down now.  We have 8 regular season games left, two double-headers this coming weekend and then two double-headers the next week – we have some games scheduled in August but we have the first three weeks of August off.

It’s been a good season.

Dundas Tournament

We are in the Dundas Tournament this weekend.  We played an awful game on Friday night, made at least 6 errors and lost the game 9-2.  Saturday mornings game started a lot better, we didn’t give up a lot of runs and we cut down on the errors, it did look like a loss for us though until we were able to tie it up in the bottom of the 6th inning after time had expired.  OK, so now were are sitting at 0-1-1.  No chance of moving onto the semi’s today.  Game three comes around and we defeat High Park by a score of 10-5, play a really good game though.

We had a pool party and bbq last evening – good time.  At about 7:30pm or so, maybe later I get a call from the Convenor.  We knew that we couldn’t get the wild card but there was actually an outside chance that we could win our division – with a 1-1-1 record?  You’re kidding me…  No, we actually won the division and we play this morning at 11:30.  If we were the wild card then we would be playing at 9 and I’d be on the road now.

So, for a third tournament in a row, we play a team in the semi-final that we lost to in the opening round – Royal York in this case.  If we play error free and we hit the ball, we should take them easily.  Either that or we will lose like we have in the previous two tournaments by a score of 2-1 in extra innings.  If that happens then I will know that the team is cursed.

Got some bad news though – one of my players can’t come today which really sucks – he has to work.  He’s one of the top pitchers for the squad so I am going to have to count on some others to pick up the slack.

Anyway, wish us luck.  I’ll report on the outcome later.  🙂

No lid on the Jeep…

Took the lid off of the Jeep last evening, well, DB and I took it off.  I am leaving it in their driveway for a few days as I really don’t have anywhere to store it.  I could leave it in my driveway, but if someone was to come along with a truck and take it, that would suck – HUGE.  It is behind a couple of vehicles at JD’s house so it should be safe.

The weather forecast for the next few days is calling for clear and hot conditions.  If there is one way to get rain to fall then I presume taking the roof off of your Jeep is a sure-fired way to do it.

Had a good baseball practice last night.  We didn’t bother to do any hitting because we have an exhibition game tonight against the Niagara Falls Minor Bantam’s at Oakes.  It will be good to see how much they have improved since we last played them in late May I think it was.  It’ll also give me a chance to pitch some of the guys who normally don’t pitch a lot for me – winning isn’t the primary concern here, getting some hitting practice and pitching practice is.

Heading out to NOTL first thing this morning for work – should be a good drive with the roof off.  Gotta get the day started – have a good one.
