Sunday – End of the week (not the beginning of a new week)

I tried turning the air conditioning off yesterday.  It wasn’t too bad at all until the evening.  When I got home from dinner (at J&D’s), it was 28.5C (83.3F) in the house and the upstairs was a little warmer.  OK, that is a bit hot so on goes the AC and closed go the windows.  Guess I will have to wait a few weeks before I can turn it off, I like having fresh air in the house.

It is now a comfortable 23.5C (74.3F).  Not bad at all.

Today is Sunday.  Guess I will go to church.  Yeah, that’s it.  I have noticed that while I am off work, which day of the week it is really doesn’t matter to me too much.  I woke up on Saturday (or was it Friday) thinking “what day is it” and then realized, why do I care.

I hope to hear from some places that I’ve applied this week – that would be nice.  Being unemployed isn’t a whole heck of a lot of fun.

Bored and no baseball…

I will admit.  I am getting bored.  I have been off work now for three weeks.  Hmmm…  Only so much I can do to keep myself entertained I guess.

I really should complete my unpacking.  I have a few boxes to go through and some stuff to get rid of.  If I haven’t unpacked a box since I moved into Welland Avenue almost 5 years ago, am I really going to use it here?  Likely not.

So, I need some get up and go to get going on it.  Anyone got any that they can lend to me?

We have also been off of baseball for the last 12 days.  We scheduled off time the first half of August so that families could go away and what not.  It didn’t entirely work.  A bunch of them went away for various durations while the season was under way.  It really didn’t have much of an effect on the team with the exception of the last regular season game that we played where I had to call up a number of minors.  Oh well.

So, we have a practice scheduled for next week and I’ve already gotten two “I can’t be there Coach” from two players.  Nice.  My guess is that I will receive a bunch more between now and then and we will end up cancelling the practice – guess we will see.  Then I have the situation with the player that missed the last three double headers without so much as an email message to let me know – thanks.  I give up.  If he wants to play elsewhere, go ahead.  I really don’t care.

The OBA’s come up on Labour Day Weekend in Brantford.  I am hoping that we will do a good job there.  I will consider it a success if we go at least 2-2 in the double knockout tournament.  If we do any less than that it will be a disappointment.  Time will tell.

We have done well in OBA tournaments to this point, I just don’t think that our pitching is deep enough to go more than 4 games in, maybe 5.  It will take at least 6 if not 7 wins to take the tournament.  Other teams will be in the same boat of course.  I will need the pitchers to keep their pitch counts low and the relievers to throw well for us.  Defense will be key as well, if we can play error free then we might be able to do something.

Anyway, got some zipping around to do.  Enjoy the weekend.

Slow week thus far…

Nothing much to report recently – I have been keeping a low profile I guess.

I am helping with the Welland PC campaign for the upcoming provincial election.  I am also helping out (I think) with the St. Catharines candidate as well.  I went to the campaign office for the Welland campaign yesterday to see what we need to do with regards to internet and what not.  It looks like the office is wired for internet in the various offices, BUT, I wasn’t able to trace the connections back to a central point – fun.  It does have drop ceilings though so if we have to run network cable it won’t be too bad.

Not sure what’s happening in the St. Catharines campaign as yet.  I wasn’t able to attend the meeting that they had on Monday as it was my birthday.

Making a road trip to Cambridge today, should be interesting.

Enjoy.

No Dent Doors – Wow, it worked…

BP called me this morning and asked if I wanted to go for breakfast, his treat.  OK, thanks.

We went to The Lancer on Hartzel Road, they have an excellent breakfast.  Thanks BP.

Leaving the parking lot, we backed up (I didn’t mention that BP was driving his car) and the car that was parked beside us back up directly into the passenger door.  He didn’t hit us that hard and wasn’t going fast, maybe 3kph.  I figured for sure that there would be a nice dent in the door.  We all got out and just like in the Saturn commercials of a few years ago, no dent in the door.

The commercials showed “dent resistant” doors, or something to that effect and that’s exactly what happened, no dent at all.

BP was still pretty pissed off but, no harm done – the guy claimed he didn’t see us backing up at all.  I suggested that he put the glasses on that he was carrying.

I was pretty impressed with the Saturn taking the hit with no damage – pretty damn good.

Too bad Saturn was discontinued – I am sure that BP was glad he had a Saturn at that particular time.

Happy Birthday to Me

Today is apparently my birthday.  I can’t really verify this myself, I don’t remember being born.  I guess that I am taking other people’s word for it.  🙂

Anyway, according to the calendar and the use of simple math, I am 40 today.  Good bye 30’s, welcome 40’s.

The 30’s were pretty good all in all with the exception of the last month or so.

Here’s to hoping that the 40’s will be a good decade.

Great Meal Dave

Had a great meal last night with the family for my Birthday Festival.  DB makes some great BBQ, that’s for sure.  BBQ’d chicken, kabobs (with shrimp, veggies), roasted potatoes. I didn’t get what I wanted for dessert, but that’s ok – even though it was ALWAYS a rule to get what we wanted for dessert, JB is always breaking rules…  Dessert was still good, even though I wasn’t allowed to have the last piece of cake.  Whoa is me…  LOL

It was good to see B&B as well – don’t see them all that often.

Nothing planned for today other than looking at job postings on various web sites, lots of fun.

@DancesWithZeus

I think that I’ve explained this before, but, seeing as I added a “Follow Me” button in the BLOG, I figured I’d explain it all again.

I have a friend, RK, who is perhaps 1/32 Native American (Native Canadian?).  Anyway, I occasionally joke that he is full Indian.  So, we were discussing various names for my Twitter account and he came up with my Indian name, Dances with Zeus, with Zeus being my dog – taken, undoubtedly from Dances with Wolves.  That’s the long story, short.  🙂

So, in case you do want to follow me on Twitter, here is a link:

That will allow you to follow me.  🙂

I have a second Twitter account, @kdarcy21 but it is locked down in case I want to say something that I am not supposed to.  I am currently not really using the second account, no need to seeing as I am no longer with the Communists.  LOL

What else is happening…  Hmmm, not too much, taking it easy thus far today.  I have my birthday dinner tonight, as noted in yesterday’s entry.

Wish me a happy birthday – thanks.  🙂

My Birthday Festival

Went out for lunch today with T, we went to Carlos Cantina, an excellent little Mexican place on St. Paul Street.  T bought as well in honour of my birthday, thanks T.

For dinner, I went to Boston Pizza with J&D.  I had a certificate (via email) from Boston Pizza for a free pasta dinner, not a bad deal.  I didn’t particularly enjoy what I had mind you, it was too damn salty.  I left most of it and didn’t want to take it home.  The waitress, being the nice young girl that she is, brought me a free dessert as well – chocolate brownie, ice cream and whipped cream.  Nice.  Thanks – she probably wanted me, can you blame her?  LOL

Tomorrow is my family birthday dinner.  My sister and aunt from Toronto are coming down.  Dinner at J&D’s, sort of what I want, BUT, I can’t have banana splits for dessert.  😦  I never get what I want. (I put that there because a certain person may read this entry)

Nothing really planned for Sunday as yet, guess I will see.  Nothing planned for Monday either, that’s when my 30’s end and I start a new decade.  The 30’s were pretty good, I guess.  Didn’t end particularly well.  The last month has pretty well sucked.  Oh well, should only be able to get better.

A boring, rainy day…

It has been a boring couple of days.  Nothing to do really, no baseball in the evenings for a few weeks so time has been dragging.

I could do some work around the house but who wants to do that?  lol

I do have some boxes to unpack still, well, go through anyway, I doubt that I will be unpacking them.  They’ve been packed since I moved into Welland Avenue and that was nearly 5 years ago, so, I doubt very much that there will be much that I want to keep.

Perhaps I will get to those in the next couple of days – yeah, that’s it…  I sound happy about it, don’t I?

Today was one of those miserable rainy days so the dogs haven’t gone for a walk as yet.  I plan on taking them out around 8:30 or so tonight, presuming that it isn’t raining.

That’ll be the highlight of the day I am sure.

Oh, by the way, almost forgot to mention.  As of today, I have had Zeus for 5 years.  Happy Anniversary Zeus.  Today is also Blondie’s 5 month birthday.  No, we didn’t have a party.

That’s a wrap…

That’s a wrap – the regular season has ended.

The Boys of Summer League is a rather competitive league to say the least.  We ended up playing a total of 14 games and we went 1-13.  Not the best record to be sure.  In most of those 13 losses, we lost by 10 or more runs.

Those are definitely elite clubs, that’s for sure.  They do baseball most of the year, the practice in the winter and play in a large number of tournaments – we aren’t at that level, neither are most of the teams in Baseball Ontario.

Once we get into an OBA tournament, we do just fine which is evident by the way we’ve played in our last three tournaments.

Last night was odd though.  We have a roster of 14 and I was missing 7 of my players.  I called up three Minor Bantams and they did a very nice job for us.

We now have a few weeks off.  We have nothing scheduled this week at all.  We may have a practice around August 10 but then again, we may not.  A majority of the players don’t seem particularly interested in practicing – it is almost like they’ve given up.  I hope not, I hope that they are just a bit tired of ball and once OBA’s come around they will be back into it.  Guess we will see.

Today is the Civic Holiday.  Mostly everything is open though, except Government offices and banks. It’s going to be a warm one, it is 5:50am and it is 24 Celsius out there already.

Enjoy your day off (if you have one) and if not, don’t work too hard.
