Happy Birthday to my sisters !!!

Happy birthday to my sister – actually, both sisters.  J’s birthday is today, B’s birthday is Wednesday.  They are getting old.  Ha.  I wrote that in case one of them reads this entry.

We are going to Red Lobster tomorrow for all-u-can-eat shrimp.  Should be great.

The hunt continues

Getting quite bored here.  I have been off of work for 6 weeks now.  I have applied for a number of jobs, haven’t heard from any of them as yet.  I continue to look online every day, not a lot of IT related jobs in the area.  I think I am going to have to expand the search.  I don’t really care where I work or live – I am willing to move – nothing really rooting me here.  Who knows…

I went and was planning on watching the Brock Badgers home opener last night.  I say I was planning on it because the weather was shitty.  I did stay and watch the first inning.  There was light drizzle and wind – awesome weather for baseball.  The Badgers were up 3-0 after the first inning and I was wet enough (and cold enough) so I cut out.  Not sure what the final score was – I am sure that Brock won (against Kingston).  I do plan on going to see some more games, hopefully it will be warmer and dryer…

Nothing planned for the day today – I am sure something will come up, or not…

Baseball season is over…

The AA Bantam Championships were this past weekend.  We played in Brantford.  We didn’t play well.

In the Friday night opener, we lost to Waterloo.  On Saturday, we lost to Oakville.  Our run at the championship was over.

We were mercied two games straight.  We didn’t score a run in two games, in fact, we didn’t get a base runner to third base.

It was a disappointing end to an otherwise great season.  It was fun, the season I mean, not necessarily the OBA’s.

We had our team party yesterday, it was a bbq / pool party.  Thanks to the Buckley’s for hosting.  Thanks to JD and KM for their assistance in coaching this season as well as BS for his help as well.

I am not sure if I will coach again next year.  I quite often say that at the end of a season but this time it is more likely than other times.  Guess I will see what happens.  I may be working in Tuktoyuktuk (NWT) for all I know.

I hope that all of the guys enjoy their off-season and all the best for the future.

OBA’s – here we come …

This is it.  We have worked all summer for this weekend.  Provincial Championships in Brantford this weekend, we start this afternoon at 3pm versus Waterloo.

I was unable to find much information on Waterloo, they had a 15-7 record so they aren’t perfect.  Hopefully we will be and we will send them to the losing side of the play-off bracket.

Good luck Cobras – with some hard work and a little luck, we can bring home a championship.

Final week of baseball…

Baseball wraps up this week.  Well, it should anyway.  I guess it might go into Labour Day Monday but I doubt that we will have the pitching that we need to go that long into the tournament – guess we will see.

We were supposed to play the NF Bantam Select club tonight.  We cancelled due to the number of players that we had who were injured and/or sore.  We play the Minor Bantam Cobras tomorrow evening in an exhibition game of sorts – I am going to umpire.  Should be fun.

Wednesday sees us having batting practice – live batting practice.  We were supposed to have an exhibition against the Minor Midgets from the Falls but, again, injuries and the fact that I really don’t want a shit-kicking right before the OBA’s, it’s been cancelled.  Good think actually.  The Junior Championship is now scheduled for after our BP session on Wednesday – I might stick around and watch some of it.

Hopefully the boys will surprise me (in a good way) this coming weekend.

Best of luck.

Provincial Championships, here we come !!!

The team has played 4 games between Thursday night and tonight.

On Thursday, we played the Niagara Falls Minor Bantam Falcons.  Not a bad game, we lost by 2 runs or so but it wasn’t a bad game.  We struggled a bit on the mound but that’s ok.

Last night we went to Ancaster for a re-match against the team that we tied 3-3 in the Dundas Tournament.  It was one of the best performances of the year.  We played a 9 inning game and scored 2 runs in each of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd while getting them 3 up and 3 down.  We went on to win 11-5 on very strong pitching from both of our pitchers.  The hitting, base running and defense was excellent.

We played a double-header tonight against Niagara Falls again.  We had a number of players who were hurt or sore or whatever.  I’ve never heard so much complaining in my life.  Some of it might be legit, some of it, who knows…  We ended up losing both games, the first one was close, the second one, not even sure.

I was ejected from the second game.  I had seen enough of the worst umpire that the umpires association could have possibly provided me.  He’s an idiot, doesn’t know the rules of baseball and (with me being polite) that’s all I am going to say.

So, I was ejected in the second inning (I think) – didn’t really care.  Don’t really care.  Now I will have to serve a one game suspension because of a … umpire.  Oh well.

Anyway, we were supposed to play a number of games next week leading up to OBA’s next weekend.  I have cancelled them because of the injuries, etc.  I want to ensure that we are healthy for next weekend.

Good luck boys, I hope we do well.  I think that this will be my last kick at the old Baseball Ontario Championship can for while.  If it is, it’s been a good ride.  🙂

Baseball update, work update …

This is a busy week and a bit of baseball.

Batting cage tonight in Welland.  Practice tomorrow, presuming it doesn’t rain (not that we’ve had any rainouts for our practices).  Thursday we have an exhibition game versus the Minor Bantams from Niagara Falls.  Friday we are on the road to Ancaster to play the Cardinals in a re-match of the Dundas Tournament where we pulled out a tie after being down the whole game – the tie got us a division win and entry into the semi-finals (where we lost in a great game).  Saturday, another double header against Niagara Falls and I will be a few players short.

I hate hockey tryouts this time of the year.  I am losing players for hockey already.  Why hockey can’t wait until after Labour Day is beyond me – they have the whole freakin’ winter.  Oh well, can’t beat the hockey mentality.

Next week we play a couple more exhibition games – we face the Minor Bantam club from St. Catharines and then play the Minor Midgets from the Falls.  We are in Brantford over Labour Day Weekend going for the AA title.  I hope that the boys come out to play.

Nothing much else going on.  I am looking through Workopolis on a daily basis, nothing local, nothing much at all outside of the GTA.  Oh well.

Wedding weekend

It would appear that my main desktop PC isn’t capable of running Dungeon Siege III.  Oh well.  My laptop will run it without any issues, only problem is that playing it with the trackpad is really tough.  Guess I might need to connect a trackball or mouse to it to play it properly.  If I could only find my switchbox, that would be ideal – I am sure it’s around somewhere.

I went to my cousins wedding yesterday.  Was there on Friday afternoon / evening to help setup as well.  A very nice wedding, casual dress which is nice.  It was in her backyard which was huge.  Great food and entertainment and it was good to see some cousins that I don’t see very often.

Nothing planned for today.  Going to do just that.

Upgrade to Windows 7

I’ve decided to install Windows 7 on my desktop PC at home now.  I’ve been running Windows XP on it since I got it, decided it was time to upgrade.

Going smoothly thus far.

I tried installing Dungeon Siege III on the XP system and it wouldn’t run.  Not sure if it was due to XP or not, but, I figured since I wanted to upgrade anyway, this was as good a reason to as any.  I hope that the game will run now, if not I will be disappointed.  I need an IT guy to assist…  🙂

So, it is Windows 7 on two of my three systems now.  That works for me.

Good luck T

I went out for a late breakfast with T this morning – she is due on Saturday and looks ready to burst.  She is also quite tired of being pregnant – can’t say that I blame her.

She’s going to be admitted on Sunday and will deliver on Monday which I am sure she sees as excellent news.  I hope that all goes well with the delivery.  Best of luck T.

Nothing much has been going on in the last couple of days.  Applied for a few more jobs, haven’t heard back from any of the ones that I’ve applied for thus far.  That sucks.
