Saving Private Ryan

Nothing much to report really.  I have applied for a few jobs, haven’t heard from any of them though – that sucks.  I may look outside of the IT area and just try to work, “somewhere”.  Being at home all day, every day is something else.  Yes, I am free to come and go as I please, but really, what am I supposed to do with my time?  I have been taking the dogs on some pretty long walks, they love that I am sure.  We’ve had some great weather recently – it has generally been sunny and warm.

I’m watching Saving Private Ryan tonight on History.  I suppose that one positive thing to not working is being able to watch something like this – typically I would be in bed around this time of night.  Since I have nothing to be up for in the morning, I can sleep in.  Yeah, that’s a good trade off…

Anyway, this has been described as one of the best war movies ever and thus far, it seems to be.

The opening scene is something else.  I cannot imagine the horror that these soldiers experienced.  November 11 is coming up – let us never forget the sacrifices that were made for all of us.

Blog has moved…

I’ve decided to move my blog.  I really like WordPress, it’s excellent.  I was paying GoDaddy for hosting and what not and decided to cut that expense out even though it was a small expense.

I’ve moved over to WordPress, they offer free hosting.  Not a bad deal.  I am going to be dropping the kevindarcy.me domain.

Anyway, here’s to the new home of my blog.

Burger King

When I was going to Niagara College (back in the 90’s), we used to eat at Burger King quite often – the specials were a good deal and none of us had a lot of cash…

I saw on TV that they have “King Deals” and on Tuesday’s, they have the chicken sandwich for $1.99.  I figured that I would try one again.

OMG.  I wouldn’t feed one of these to an enemy, it would, I am sure, be against terms of the Geneva Convention.  It was horrible.  Awful.  Some other word that I can’t think of.

I have no idea what has happened since the last time that I ate there but wow.  I can say for sure that I won’t be again.

The fries were ok, a bit salty but otherwise good.

I brushed my teeth in a vain attempt to get the taste out of my mouth, mixed results.  I presume that if I survive the night all will be well.  Perhaps an overdose of the left-over chocolate bars from Halloween will help – they can’t hurt…

Speaking of Halloween, this was my first in the new place.  There are a LOT of kids in the neighbourhood but I had a lot less kids than I had figured.  I guess it doesn’t help when the neighbours around didn’t give any out – maybe kids didn’t come to this end of the street.  Oh well.

Here’s your whale hat sir…

Had all-u-can-eat shrimp at Red Lobster last evening, great food, too much of it though…  I typically go twice while they have the “deal” on although it really isn’t that much of a deal.  In the US, it is advertised at 14.99 and it is $5 more in Canada.  Odd, I think that the Canadian dollar is worth just about the same as the US.  Oh well.  It was just DB and I for dinner.

The World Series is nearly wrapped up.  Texas is leading 3-2 and can wrap it up tonight.  It has been some good baseball all in all.  Game 3 was a bit of a blow-out, 16-7 was the final for St. Louis, all of the other games have been very tight and Texas has come back to win late in 2 games.  Should be good ball tonight and it’ll wrap either tonight or tomorrow.

I’ve applied for a couple of positions – hope to hear something.  Not working is BORING.  Wow, the days seem to drag on…

I am thinking of scrapping the domain “kevindarcy.me” and putting this blog back on Blogspot, it’s free there.  This isn’t overly expensive but, how often do I actually use it?  Not too often at all.  Guess it will depend on when I get a new job…

World Series set to go…

There have been some exciting games in the baseball play-offs this fall.  Texas hammered Detroit in the 6th game of the ALCS 15-5 for their second straight trip to the World Series. I think this might be their year to win it as well – they face St. Louis who defeated the Brewers in 6 games.  Should be a good series although I am sure it won’t have the draw that MLB would like.

I’ve applied for a few jobs in the last couple of weeks – hoping to hear back from, well, at least one – how would that be…

Boring, aren’t I?

It has been a few days since I’ve posted.  Hmmm…

It is the Thanksgiving Weekend, beautiful weather, today is supposed to get up to 24C which will be great.

Heading to J&D’s tomorrow for dinner, just the 3 of us.  No turkey, but that’s ok.

Nothing happening on the job front.  That sucks.

No, I did not hit the squirrel

OK.  You are driving down the road and see a squirrel crossing so you slow down.  Without any doubt, the squirrel will run half way across the road and then stop.

Are they tempting you to hit them?  Are they tired and they need a rest?  Are they just plain stupid?

Anyway, no, I didn’t hit the squirrel.  I slowed down and had to stop to avoid hitting the damn thing.  I didn’t want squished squirrel all over my tire.

Oh well, I guess that squirrels aren’t the sharpest knives in the drawer.

Anyway, I guess that counts as the excitement for the evening – I lead a pretty boring life.

Today has been a day of watching play-off baseball.  First off it was the Diamondbacks versus the Brewers – Brewers win the opener 4-1.  Next up was the Cards @ the Philly’s.  Started off rough for Halladay, he gave up three runs in the first but then didn’t look back and cruised.  The final was 11-6 I believe, the reliever in the 9th (for the Phils) had a few minor problems.

Now it is a continuation of the Tigers @ the Yankees – rained out last night.  I hate the Yankees.  I think that you either love them or hate then, I don’t think that there is any middle ground.  It is tied 1-1, bottom of the 4th.  I hope that Detroit sweeps the series.

As for the World Series, I am pulling for Philly I guess.  I am a Jays fan, for some reason, they are missing from the post season.  🙂

Dinner @ Jack’s

Went out to dinner tonight to Jack Astor’s in St. Catharines.  Great food.  I had the chicken parmigiana with bowtie pasta – excellent.  Best that I have had anywhere I think.  They are also the only restaurant that I have been to that has cherry Coke.  Went out with J&D.

Pretty relaxing day – nothing much going on.  It was the Grape and Wine parade, I did not go.  No interest in parades.  Wine drinking is good though but I didn’t partake in that either.

Going to start to expand my job search next week when I look online.  Tuktoyuktuk, here I come.

The end of summer.

Today is the last day of summer, so I hear.  It was a pretty damn hot summer, too hot.  My hydro bill was high, well, what can I expect, the AC was on all the time.  I much prefer Fall.

Well, prefer the weather of Fall anyway.  I always miss coaching baseball this time of year.  I have caught a few Brock baseball games which has been good.  It looks like they have a pretty good club this season – best of luck to them.

Dog puke in the morning…

Haven’t posted in a few days.  Nothing much to report I guess.

I was woken up this morning at 3:30am, Blondie was puking.  Man, what a stench…  Looks like she was chewing up her blanket and it didn’t agree with her.  The joys of waking up in the middle of the night to clean up dog puke.  Fun, fun, fun.

I was wide awake, as one can imagine.  I decided to turn on the TV.  The original Star Trek was on.  Wow, is the acting ever GOOD.  I suppose at the time it was considered good, now it is just plain cheesy…

Nothing going on today, watching the Jays play their last Saturday home game versus the Yankees.  The Jays season has technically been over for a few weeks (at least) – perhaps they can spoil the Yankees fun.

It’s the bottom of the 2nd and the Jays have just went up 1-0.  I am sorta missing baseball – we had some fun this summer.
