Trip to the US of A

I went over the river today with BP.  We went to the outlet mall in Niagara Falls and then for lunch.  I was disappointed with the outlet mall.  There were quite a few good stores but the prices were quite high – I could get just about everything that I saw here for the same price or less.  Oh well.

Lunch was good – it was less than what we’d pay over here.  I guess that was a good deal.    The waiter was not very good though – never asked if I wanted a refill on my drink and gave us our bill without asking if we wanted something else.  Again, oh well.

Today was the first day this week that it didn’t rain so I took the dogs for a good walk.  The pathway along the lake was quite wet so Blondie got pretty dirty.

Winter is on its way, they are calling for snow on Friday. I hope it doesn’t stick around too long.

It was an angry sea…

Or lake anyway, Lake Ontario.  After the snow stopped and the sun decided to make a late-day appearance, I decided to take the dogs for a walk.  We didn’t go out yesterday as it was one of those all day rainy days and Zeus doesn’t like to walk in the rain – well, neither does his Master.

Lake Ontario was crazy – waves were crashing into the shore and making quite a lot of mist.  If I was a surfer and the water wasn’t freezing, it would be a good day to surf, other than crashing into the rocks along the lake I suppose.

It was darn cold as well – the nice temperatures that we’ve had until last week appear to be gone, for now anyway.  It was 3 or 4 and strong winds.  Winter is on its way.

I went to the Sabres game with BP last evening.  We went to the Olive Garden for dinner – not a bad meal at all.  I had beef and chicken skewers – they were excellent.  I suppose since we were so close that we should have gone across the street to the Cheesecake Factory, another day I suppose.

Back to the game – the Islanders won in a 2-1 game, sort of boring really.  When you don’t support either team, who cares who wins.  I wanted to see a number of goals I guess.  I was also looking for Dippin’ Dots which I have regularly found at Bison’s and Bill’s games, not to be see at a Sabres game though.  BP was happy, his Islanders won.

I was proud of myself as well.  I found my way from where we parked back to the Peace Bridge without the need to turn the GPS on.  Not bad I think.

Time for dinner – peace.  🙂

The Stand

As I may have noted here previously, I am reading The Stand by Stephen King.  I was thinking back to the mini-series that was on in the mid-90’s – it was pretty good as I remember it.  I checked NetFlix, no go, they have such a shitty selection.  I decided to check the internet and wow, someone uploaded it to YouTube, broken down into 15 parts. Not sure how legal that is, but, I decided to watch it.

The book, of course, goes into WAY more detail than the movie did, how couldn’t it?  It was still pretty good and fun to watch again.

I am about 1/3 of the way through the book.  I don’t read all that much, maybe 20-30 pages a day.  I have a LOT of free time right now so what else should I be doing anyway…

Heading to the Buffalo Sabres game tomorrow with BP.  We are grabbing a bite to eat first.  Should be a good time.

Great weather for November

We have had some awesome weather this Fall.  All in all, it has been very warm and pretty dry.  I am sure that we will pay for it with some shitty weather, but I can’t complain.  Wow, imagine that – I said that I can’t complain – when do I ever not complain?

Today it was 15 degrees Celsius, it’s November 26th.  I took the dogs for a long walk along the lake.

Revenge of the Sith is on Spike TV.  Not that I haven’t seen it before (about 400 times), but there is nothing else on.  The only problem with Spike is that they have commercials WAY too often.

Nothing going on this weekend that I know of – hope you have a good one.

The hunt continues…

I applied for a couple of jobs today – it was a good Monday for postings I guess.  It will be nice to get an interview one of these days.  I have heard, not sure where mind you, that once you work for the government for a period of time that a lot of employers don’t look at you.  I hope that’s not true, but, it almost looks that way.  This position was in Niagara Falls, Technical Specialist.  Guess we will see.

When / if I do start working again, I am sure that the dogs will miss having me around all day.  Blondie will be in her crate all day which I am sure she will hate.  Zeus will have the run of the house and eventually, I will trust Blondie enough to leave her out of the crate – that won’t happen for a while yet I am sure.

Anyway, wish me luck on the job hunt would ya?  I can use it.  🙂

Winter on its way…

Getting cold out there.  I just got in from walking Zeus & Blondie along the lake, freakin’ cold.  Of course, it is nearing the end of November so I really can’t complain.  The sun is shining which is good.

I am heading to the Buffalo Sabres game on Tuesday with BP.  I think we are grabbing dinner at The Olive Garden before.  I haven’t been to the US since summer for baseball so I guess I’ll grab gas and some groceries as well.  I have never been to the arena where Buffalo plays – the last time I was there, it was the old arena which I am not even sure if it exists any longer.  The Islanders come to town and that, for whatever reason is BP’s team.

Nothing planned for the weekend.  Have a good one.

UPDATE – Not sure what I was thinking…  I am not going to the Sabres game this Tuesday, it is Tuesday the 29th.  Not that it makes any real difference to me though… 🙂

Under the Dome

I just finished reading a book by Stephen King, Under the Dome.  It was excellent.  I don’t think that I’ve ever read a book by King that I haven’t enjoyed.

In short, this book is about a small town in, you guessed it, Maine that is suddenly “under a dome”.  It is a sort of a force field that covers the entire town, blocking them off from the rest of the world.

The story covers the lives of the people living in this town and what happens to them after the dome appears.

There are characters who you a going for and other characters that you hate.  Some of the good guys die in the end, but that’s the way that King does his thing.  Some of the good guys survive though, so that’s good.  Don’t want to give too much away here in case someone who reads this might want to tackle the book – it is definitely worth the read.

I am going to start on another King novel now that this one is finished.  I find that once I start a book I have a hard time putting it down.

I am reading on my iPad which is great.  It remembers my place and the pages don’t get ripped.

Thanks Stephen King for all of your great books – I have enjoyed them all.

Good day for a walk

I took the dogs for a good walk today.  We went to Jaycee Park on Ontario Street, walked around the park then to the back of the park and across the bring connecting it to Port Dalhousie, around that park and back.  They were tired.  I’d guess it was likely between 3 and 4 km in total.  Great day for it today, beautiful weather for nearly the middle of November.  I am sure that we will get hit with a dose of cold soon enough.

Both dogs are sleeping now so it’s peaceful.

Not much else going on today – heading to J&D’s for dinner around 6ish.  That’s about it – exciting life I lead…

24 Hours of Internet

Wow.  I’ve had working internet service for 24 hours straight.  One glitch yesterday, had to reset the modem, but, that does happen so I will let that one go.  It is nice being able to turn the laptop on or go into Facebook on the Android and actually having a network connection.  I was getting used to it NOT working.

I went for lunch today with H from work.  Well, from where I used to work anyway.  We talked about work and the people there for the most part.  It was good to see him.  Went to Kelsey’s at the Pen.

Weekend is here, no plans that I am aware of.  Something may come up, may not…

Enjoy yours.

Internet fixed? Hope so…

I have been having internet issues for the past couple of weeks.

My Cogeco modem would reset, quite frequently.  Sometimes, it would come back online within a few minutes.  Other times, it would stay offline for hours on end.

I called Cogeco before Halloween and they made an appointment to come to check out the issues. They replaced the cable line from the wall to the modem and also replaced the modem.  All was well, at least on THAT day.

The next day (it may have even been the same day that it was replaced, I don’t remember), the modem went offline again and I experienced the same problems – again.

I called Cogeco again.

I was told that there were “issues” in the neighbourhood.  OK, that may be the case, but what about the last few days I asked.  He wasn’t able to answer that, but stuck with “problems in the neighbourhood”.  OK, whatever.

The problems continued off and on.  Yesterday, it went down at about 9am and didn’t come back online until around 7pm.  Rather irritating indeed.  I called them in the afternoon and they made an appointment for today.

The previous tech didn’t (for whatever reason) go into the basement where the cable is split around the house.  Today, that was one of the first things he did.

The splitter that was being used was replaced and this “should” resolve the issue.  He had a proper signal after that was completed.

I hope so, it has been an irritant.

Cogeco has been pretty good all in all – their techs are pretty good and the customer service people are good as well.

Hopefully my internet issues will now be resolved – time will tell…
