OK, here’s a post…

I haven’t posted a lot lately, guess I don’t have a lot to say.

Well, let’s take a look – I am not working, still…  I’ve been off now for just over 6 months.  Wow – that’s a hell of a LONG time.  There is no baseball going on and I am not on any Boards and don’t plan on coaching this summer, so, baseball is a dead issue.

I’ve applied for a couple of jobs – I hope something comes up soon.  I am ok until, well, May I guess.  After that, who knows.

I am going to have to expand my search I guess – I am more than willing to work doing something other than IT work – guess we will see.

Zeus had another one of his seizures yesterday.  It only lasted about 5 minutes or so and he recovered back to his old self.  I called into the vet so that they could record it.  His last one was way back in May.  I hope that they don’t get more frequent.

I also missed BP’s birthday.  For some reason, I thought it was the 24th and I talked to him on the 23rd.  Well, his birthday is the 20th.  Damn…  At least we aren’t women so it isn’t the end of the world.

OK – there’s a post.  Wish me some luck on getting a job and SOON.

Digging towards China?

Blondie has developed a “new” bad habit.

I’ve gotten her mostly out of jumping on me and she has also just about stopped licking me at every opportunity – those are good things.

Well, she has now started trying to dig a hole under the deck.  I presume that she is trying to reach China – isn’t that where a hole right through the world would go?  Doesn’t it always?

I suppose that I will have to accompany my dogs trips outside for the next while to get her out of this habit.

It is rather annoying when she comes in with dirt all over her paws.  I just can’t figure out why she started this now – she hasn’t been a digger up to this point.

The fun with a puppy never stops, does it…  Gotta love ’em though…

World Junior Hockey

I caught quite a bit of the World Junior hockey tournament in Alberta between Boxing Day and yesterday.

Canada went undefeated in the round robin and lost to Russia in the semi – it was close at the end, but, as the saying goes, close only counts in horse-shoes (and hand grenades).  Canada defeated Finland yesterday afternoon, 4-0 – not much of a game really.  Visentin from the Niagara Ice Dogs did a great job in net and got player of the game.

Russia then met Sweden in the gold medal game.  After 3 periods, it was 0-0 and Russia had been out-shot 50-10 (or something like that).  Sweden got a goal in the over-time period to win.  I guess I was hoping for Sweden to defeat Russia but really, did I care?

Great weather outside today – it is 8 degrees.  I think it is time to take the dogs for a walk.

Well, that sucks…

I received an email today that I didn’t want to get.  I didn’t get the job with the City of Burlington.  That sucks.  Not sure what else I could have done to the positive – they indicated that one of the other candidates was more suited to what they were looking for, or something to that effect.

So, the hunt continues.

Merry Christmas or Bah Humbug – your choice …

Well, I didn’t hear from the City of Burlington as yet, I didn’t completely expect to hear before the Christmas break, I was just hoping to.  Getting a new job would have been a great “present”.  I will now have to wait until the New Year to hear one way or the other.

We have had (or are still having, I guess) one of the warmest Decembers that I can remember.  It is a green Christmas today – no snow at all, we have only had a few flurries the entire month.  I won’t complain, I don’t need to shovel anything.

Heading to J&D’s for dinner this evening – it will be a low-key day I guess.  I gave Zeus and Blondie large nylar bones this morning, they apparently like getting gifts – both of their tails were wagging like crazy.  It took a bit to get it through to Blondie that both bones weren’t for her.

I hope that you have a good Christmas – enjoy !!!

Technical assessment…

I went for a technical assessment today (I guess that’s what you’d call it) with the City of Burlington.  Essentially, they “broke” a computer that I was asked to fix.  No issues there at all.

They had un-seated some memory, disconnected the hard drive and made a change to the BIOS.  I fixed those issues and logged in.

Had to manually start Windows Explorer and then did some basic “windows” stuff.  Got reconnected to the internet and completed the rest of the tasks, all told, about 15 minutes or so.

Now, I wait.  Not sure when I will hear – hopefully soon.

Nothing planned for the rest of the day – I think I will be a bum.

References? Check…

I heard from all three of my references and they were contacted.  They apparently said nice things about me.  Well, who could say anything bad, come on now.

My technical interview is tomorrow.  I should do well with that part of it.

Rainy, crappy day today.  Nice temperature though, it is currently 7 degrees out there.  It is the 21st of December which is, I believe, the shortest day of the year – or is that the longest night of the year?  Not sure.

We will not be having a white Christmas this year, of that I am sure.  Oh well.  Just means that I won’t have to shovel my side walk nor Jeep.  I like that.

Taking Zeus in to have his nails trimmed today – I am sure he’ll love that.  I am taking Blondie in to see what she weighs.  I am guessing 70 pounds but really, I have no idea.  Gotta go buy them dog food as well sometime today or tomorrow – I don’t want to run out over the holiday – they might eat me.

Stage 2…

I received an email less than 24 hours after the interview asking me back for a technical interview this coming Thursday.  I will be presented with common issues experienced in the job.  A good second step I would think.

They also asked for my references and will be contacting them next week.

So, I am very hopeful that I will get this position.

I took the dogs out for a couple of walks today.  This morning we walked along a very cold and rough Lake Ontario.  The waves were crashing into the shore making quite a bit of surf.  This afternoon we walked in an Eco Park near the canal, I’ve never been there before.  Not somewhere you would want to walk when it was wet but today it was dry – and cold.  We’ll go back there for sure, lots of trails all over and other people had their dogs on leashes which is good seeing as Zeus takes offence to their very presence.

Interview went well…

I had an interview this afternoon.  It went well, I was able to answer all of their questions anyway.  They will have a second round next week and I will hear one way or the other early next week.  So, if all goes well, I might hear that I have a new job before Christmas.  I might hear the other way as well, which, obviously, I am hoping that doesn’t happen.

It is a warm day today, 14 degrees and it is the middle of December.  It is raining, but I will take that with the warm temps.  From the look of the long term forecast, we are not going to be having a white Christmas in Southern Ontario. It is supposed to get colder for the weekend, more seasonal weather for sure.  I won’t complain, cold doesn’t bother me and who could complain with how it has been recently.

Anyway, wish me luck in getting to the second stage and after that (should it happen), getting the position.  I would be surprised if I don’t get a call back – guess I will have to wait and see.  I am sure that I’ll post about it.
