Anyone who knows me, knows I’m a Houston Astros fan. They are actually my number two team. My number one team, which I don’t publicize as often are the Colorado Rockies. If you know anything about baseball, you know why I don’t advertise it…
Anyway, the Astros won the AL West Division, one of the weaker divisions in baseball this season. I don’t expect them to make it far, but I purchased Rogers Sportsnet so that I could watch the Wild Card round. It was the Chicago White Sox and although they had a better record than Houston, because Houston won the division, the games were played in Houston.
It didn’t matter. Chicago made quick work of the Astros and advanced.
I wasn’t sure if I would be able to watch the playoffs from my cruise. Turned out that I couldn’t. Unsure if the issue was slow internet, the Rogers Sportsnet app or what. It didn’t work while using VPN, not using, didn’t matter. So, I suppose it didn’t really matter since Houston was out.
I didn’t want my two least favourite teams to advance and they didn’t. The Rays took out the Yankees and the Brewers took out the Dodgers. Thanks to both teams. I followed along with scores and what not so I knew what was happening.
Fast forward a few days and I was home. I watched a couple of the ALCS games. I didn’t really care who won so it was no stress baseball.
As we are all aware (well, maybe not all) the two teams with the best record advanced to the World Series. Lots of talk about who would win and who’d do this, and who’d do that. Again, neither are my team so I didn’t really care. Neither team has ever won a World Series either so that’s sort of cool that someone new will win.
Games 1 and 2 were Friday and Saturday and the home team came out ahead in well played exciting games.
Tonight, the series shifted to Tampa Bay and “everyone” figured that the Rays would win and get back into the series.
Well, nothing could be further from the truth. Milwaukee absolutely crushed Tampa Bay, they scored 10 unanswered runs and won 10-1. They were up 10-0 at the end of the 5th. When I coached youth baseball, that would have ended the game.
There’s little chance that Tampa Bay will make a comeback and win 4 straight games, I don’t believe it’s ever been done in the World Series before and it isn’t going to happen this year either.
Anything could happen tomorrow… Maybe Tampa gets angry and storms back. Maybe Tampa has already fallen apart and there is no hope. It should be fun, regardless. Especially when you don’t really care who wins.
I suppose a 4 game comeback would be fun as well, but I cannot imagine the Brewers falling apart like that. It’s not going to happen. I think it’ll end tomorrow, the Fat Lady was warming up today.
Someone will win the World Series in the next few days anyway. The odds tell me it’ll be the Brewers. We’ll see anyway.
That could be the last ball we’ll see in a bit. It sounds like there could be a lockout next season, or maybe sooner than that. Owners and players fighting over millions of dollars, billionaires fighting millionaires. Maybe something good will happen and there will be a compromise, but I doubt it. Maybe we’ll have Spring Training in February and March. Time will tell.
Regardless, the NFL is in full swing. My Bills are 5-1. The offense is great, the defense needs work. They’ll do what they do every year and make the playoffs, get fans hopes up and then lose in heartbreaking fashion.
Anyway, play ball…
