Baseball season is done …

Whatever happened to my daily posts? Well, I no longer have Internet access at home, that is the largest factor I’d guess. Oh well …

Anyway, as I’ve indicated, baseball season is over. This is good and bad.

We ended up losing the NDBA Peewee Championship played against Niagara Falls by two games to none, two ugly games actually. The trophies that we received looked like leftovers for the gay pride parade – not that there is anything wrong with that … lol

The Provincial “A” Championships were held over Labour Day Weekend in Niagara Falls.

We opened against Sault Ste. Marie on Friday. The game was delayed for 2 hours due to rain but we got it going again and held them off for a 5-1 win. That gave us a bye in the 2nd round. Niagara Falls won both of their games so guess who we meet in round 3?

We play NF on Saturday morning and lost by a score of 5-1, not a bad game at all. Perhaps they weren’t going after us on all cylinders, I am not sure but we held our own.

Facing elimination, we played Kingston Saturday afternoon in COLD conditions, much better suited for football. We ended up losing 16-13 in a long game full of crazy hits (due to extreme wind) and shitty umpiring (for both sides, they just sucked).

We finished up the season with a good year end party.

This time of year, after baseball is done is always bitter sweet. I’ll miss the coaches, players and parents and the games – practices aren’t much fun though so I won’t miss that aspect.

Best of luck to all of the players as they continue along playing the game that they all love. For me, who knows what I’ll be doing next year – no decisions have been made as yet.

Mid August Already

Time is certainly flying by … My baseball team had just finished our first round of playoffs when I last posted. We played Port Colborne last night in a rather long game that took over 2.5 hours to complete. We ended up winning 12-9 in extra innings in the “very” near dark. We don’t play again until next week. Screwed up schedule …

I had my 39th birthday on Sunday. J/D and I went to Toronto for lunch. Good drive there and back. When have you ever heard that from me? As we all know, I hate Toronto. Oh well – don’t have to visit that often.

That’s it for now. Who knows when the next update will happen. 🙂

Playoff Game #2

Well, we are o for 2 in the playoffs and now lose home field advantage to Port Colborne. I didn’t really expect to defeat Niagara Falls but we play pretty well only losing 7-0. Not a bad defensive effort all in all. Offense – hmmm … Not sure about that.

Playoff Game #1

Well, last night was an interesting game. Nothing against Port Colborne, they have a good club for a small City. I am not sure what happened with my team last night but, to put it mildly, they did not play well.

We ended up losing to Port Colborne 13-5 or so, I am not even sure of the final score. Nice. If we lose tonight (and we haven’t beaten NF yet) then we fall to 3rd place which would mean two trip to Port Colborne (in a best of 3 series) in the 2nd round – yuck.

I am missing the SS from the team, his family is on vacation. Nice time for vacation. I shifted players around and NO ONE could field a ground ball. All of the hits to the outfield were not hit anywhere near a player. I now have to decide who plays where tonight, almost all over again.

Some days I must admit, I hate baseball … lol – wish us some luck 🙂

Another day – another post …

I had a nice and relaxing long weekend – didn’t do too much of anything which is exactly what I wanted to do. No baseball, nothing. It was nice.

Baseball playoffs begin tonight against Port Colborne and continue tomorrow against Niagara Falls. Hopefully we will play well.

Nothing much else to add really. Same old. Boring post, no? lol

End of the season …

Well, we finished on a high note I suppose. We played the Niagara Falls Minor Peewee club last night and we did defeat them. For some reason, I wanted to put the hurt to them – not physically, just beat them and beat them good.

I pitched my top three pitchers and used a “tournament” style lineup. Top of the first inning, 3 up, 3 down. Not the best start …

Anyway, we ended up beating them 11-1 in 6 innings, a few of my guys got some key hits and we had excellent pitching and defense so all in all it was a good effort on our part. Of course, it was against one of the weaker teams in the league – what a bully I am eh?

So, that is the regular season done. We finished with a 13-4-1 record. We lost 4 times in 4 chances against the Niagara Falls Major Peewee’s and tied one game against Port Colborne. We also missed a game against Thorold and one against Port – those won’t be made up.

Play-offs start next week and continue for a few weeks and we have the CNE coming up as well as OBA’s.

Wish us luck … 🙂

CNE Tournament

The drive to Toronto yesterday wasn’t too bad at all. We had the customary slowdowns here and there but all in all the traffic was pretty good. I really don’t understand why people have to slow down to look at a police car with its lights flashing on the OTHER side of the highway – can anyone explain that to me?

Anyway, I left Niagara Falls @ 4:50pm and arrived at the CNE grounds at 6:45pm so maybe it was a bit longer than I really thought it was. Dinner was good – chicken, potatoes, salad – healthy stuff, imagine that … I am surprised that my body didn’t reject it.

I signed in and was tenth or so – this of course means that I draw 10th. We were slotted into a good game time, August 24 (Tue) @ 10am, I wanted to play at 10 so that works out well for me. We are playing the Vaughan Vikings Minor Peewee club. I would REALLY hate to lose out to a Minor club, but, from what I hear the Vaughan program is suffering a bit right now. The Major Peewee team from Vaughan was in the Niagara Falls Tournament this past weekend and they didn’t win any games, not that that means anything. I guess we will wait and see.

There is supposed to be a baseball practice this evening and the weather forecast is calling for rain and thundershowers. The regular season wraps up tomorrow evening in Niagara Falls against the Minors. Play-offs start next week and then we will coast to the end of the season pretty well.

More later. 🙂

Toronto Bound

I am Toronto bound, well, not right now but tonight. My baseball team is attending the CNE Peewee Tournament in August and for some reason, they make you come to a meeting to draw for the schedule. Mind you, they do serve dinner so that's good.

I am sure that I've mentioned that I hate driving to Toronto. It shouldn't be too bad I guess since most of the traffic "should" be heading west while we are heading east – guess I will see.

Nothing else going on – aren't you supposed to relax in the summer?

Niagara Falls Tournament

We were in the Niagara Falls Tournament this weekend. We opened on Friday evening against Whitby. I figured that Whitby would have been a stronger team but we beat them 12-3 or so. The strike zone was rather small (for both teams) but we were able to hit it.

Saturday morning we faced the Burlington Bulls. It was a duel, right to the end. We scored a single run in the 2nd inning and held a 1-0 lead until Burlington tied it in the bottom of the 6th. It looked like we'd end with a tie until we hit an over the fence homer in the 7th and then struck out the side in the bottom of the 7th.

Up next was the team from Newmarket. They hit the ball well, and often and beat us 11-0 in a mercied 5 inning game. We didn't move on due to run differential but all in all, the tournament was a success for us.

Newmarket ended up thumping Niagara Falls 9-0 in the championship game. It was sort of nice to see them take a pounding seeing as they have thumped us MANY times this season.

The NDBA regular season ends this week on Thursday. All we have left is playoffs, the CNE tournament and OBA's. I'll be happy and sad when it is all over.

Enjoy the week – out.

Well, where have I been?

It has been quite some time since I posted anything on my blog.  I haven't really enjoyed the last few months I suppose, baseball has been a drag and so has work.

I have coached baseball teams that haven't performed well before, that doesn't bother me.  The players are trying their best (I am sure), we just haven't been overly successful.  Mind you, we have played in a league that we really aren't ready for.  The teams that we have played are "elite" level clubs and we aren't at that level.  All of that is OK, as I've said, I've coached teams like that before.  I am not sure what the difference was this year.  It has been more of a chore than anything really to go out and go through the motions.  That's too bad, I used to really enjoy baseball.

Well, it has been over two months since I posted and most of the baseball season has come and gone.  We have done fairly well in the NDBA league, lost 4 times to the ND Majors and otherwise have dominated the other teams in the league.  We have 1 tie (against Port Colborne) and 12 wins (or so).  We have a few make-up games that we likely won't make up and play-offs start in a few short weeks.

We have been to only one tournament thus far – in Hamilton.  It was all right, the boys were outplayed though.  We were able to defeat Georgetown which is a first for any team that I have coached.  I have ALWAYS lost to teams from Georgetown until this year – there is a positive note I guess.  We are in a tournament this weekend as well, in Niagara Falls.  We have the CNE coming up in August and then the A OBA's over Labour Day Weekend.  That'll wrap it up and will likely wrap up my time as a coach for the time being anyway.  I am sure that I will come back to it at some point but who knows …

Work has been work – it has just been a bit boring is all.  Nothing more to say there.

I will try to post more regularly.  Out.
