I was terminated without cause on Monday, June 1. I was not given a termination letter. I was not given options for severance, my bosses boss told me that HR would be in contact with me to discuss that. Bullshit, Bill, fucking bullshit.
So, I finally got access to the retiree portal at IBM and I logged a ticket with HR asking when they’d be in contact with me regarding my severance pay, which, by the way is legally required.
They replied that my Manager and his Manager had decided that I would NOT be getting severance. Really eh? Even though it’s required by law?
So, I contacted an employment lawyer who was pretty useless. As I said, I have not received a termination letter and apparently they need that. So, I reached out via text and phone to Bill to provide that to me ASAP. He read my text messages, I am sure he saw my calls, yet he ignored me. I am getting a bit pissed off.
Now, what Bill and my asshole Manager don’t realize, I was in the process of paying back a rather large overpayment that IBM had made to me from January 2025 through March 2025, a total of about $8,000 CDN. I was paying back $369 or so per month and those payments were supposed to continue through the end of 2026. Well, you’ve paid me my final pay which at least included my vacation time but, since you aren’t paying me any more, you’re not getting your overpayment.
By my calculations, the overpayment is larger than the amount of severance IBM MUST pay me, 4 weeks of pay. Now, I could quite likely get more out of IBM, I was actually hoping for 6 months of severance pay, so, I may pursue it regardless. I am unsure how I will get a letter of termination though. I suppose I will log another ticket with HR since they closed the previous one.
Let me assure you, good readers, I am not done with IBM. Not by a long shot.
