Kevin's Ramblings…

Another late post…  I have to stop getting in after midnight.

Friday was a day off for me.  We call them ADO’s (comment deleted by author).  Not a bad deal, we work an extra 1/2 hour per day and get every 3rd Friday (or whatever) off.

So, today I let the dog out about 7:15am.  Went back to bed.  Woke up again shortly after 11am.  Showered, did a bit of running around, had a nap.  Yes, I had a nap after getting up at 11…  Went for dinner (AGAIN, this is WAY too often, but whatever). 

Friday night was poker night.  The Poker Gods favoured me tonight.  It was like a roller coaster ride for most of the evening.  At one point I was almost eliminated but was able to more than double up.  I won a HUGE hand with a pair of 2’s.  Who wins with a pair of 2’s?  Well, me I guess.  I also had a couple of other great hands.  Towards the end, the blinds were $500 and $1000 with only $1500 in starting chips.  I won a few hands on a high card or a low pair.  Anyway, with 9 guys playing I won first place of $50.  A newby, the “Guy with two first names” came in second ($30) and Bill who almost never wins got his $10 entry back.  A good night all in all.  Mike actually made it on time too which is some sort of miracle.

I have to help with the SCMBA Bingo on Saturday morning, in about 8 hours actually.  Guess it is time to turn in for the night.  Later…

Well, my entry for Thursday is a bit late… 

A quick, busy day @ work.  The IT Christmas get-together has been moved to lunch at Dom’s on Tuesday – now we have 40+ people attending which is pretty good.  Comment deleted by author.  Should be a good time.

Out ADO’s started again (comment deleted by author) so I am off on Friday – long weekend…  I am going to have a busy day anyway.  I have to do some running around for SCMBA in the day then dinner and poker.  Hopefully I can finish in the money this time around – we’ll see.

Went for dinner (again) with Joan and Dave.  I have to stop eating out so often…  Actually, I ate out twice today since I went to Pizza Pizza for lunch.  Gotta cut back.

Didn’t end up helping with renovations at Sister Joan’s tonight – they weren’t ready…  Oh well, not much of a renovating type of guy.

I am hitting bed.  It’s late and I wanted to go earlier, guess that didn’t work out.  Oh well, I will hopefully sleep in a bit on Friday.

Wish my luck at poker.  I’ll need a bit of it anyway.  🙂

An interesting day at work today.  Not necessarily with the work part, but in what happened in general. 

A change in IT, the Manager of PMO is no longer with us, Neil was promoted to her position on a temporary basis at least – congrats Neil. 

The IT Christmas Dinner was cancelled – out of a Department of 60 or so people only 15 were going to attend.  Now, some people couldn’t attend because they have kids and no sitters or other plans on the night, etc., etc.  Some didn’t want to attend for other reasons.  I wasn’t going to attend for other reasons…

So, now the Christmas Dinner will be a Christmas Lunch – still at Dom’s Downtown comment removed by author so that should cause more people to want to attend.  I’ll go as long as a certain other person goes as well – who doesn’t want comment deleted by author.  If I stayed at work, I’d have to do something…  LOL

In general, I think the attitude of the staff is negative due to a certain person NOT getting a certain job.  I am sure that will eventually go away, although it was still wrong as far as I am concerned.

So, that was the day. 

Tonight I plan on cleaning my office at home.  I am sure that I have written about that before – it hasn’t happened as yet.  Who knows if I’ll get to it tonight or not…  I am heading out later for a coffee with friends.  I hope to find an hour between now and then and straighten some stuff up in there.  I’ve been in my current house for a record (doesn’t include my childhood home) 3 years 2 months now.  The previous record was 2 years in a tiny little house – literally.  I am not sure what the square footage was, I am guessing 20×20, perhaps 25×25 but I doubt it was that large.  Years ago it used to be a large garage and was converted into a little house.  It was fine for one person but I stored all my stuff at my Dad’s place.  Anyway, moved into a larger place with a backyard which is good for Zeus.  I’d like to buy it, but, Frank isn’t ready to sell.  Oh well, perhaps he’ll change his mind in time.  For now, I’ll stay here, I’m happy and it has everything I need.  The rent isn’t bad and the place is great.  Wish I could get the fireplace pilot lit mind you – that sorta sucks.  I should try it again soon and if I can’t get it going someone at work can get it going.  Perhaps there is a spider web or something in the gas line – who knows…

Anyway, longer post tonight by the looks.  I am out.  🙂

Anoher day in paradise?  LOL  Another Tuesday, a day closer to the end of the week.

Same old, same old at work – nothing odd or exciting.  Not sure what would make work more exciting though…

Relaxed tonight – watched some tv and Leno now.  That’s about it.

A short post – nothing to rant and rave about I guess…  LOL

Not a bad Monday as far as Mondays go.  Work went by quickly enough, not too busy, not too slow.  Nothing too exciting, it will start to slow down until Christmas at this point…

The IT Christmas party is coming up, December 1.  I sorta organized it, we are having it at Dom’s Downtown.  Heather puts on a great buffet for sure.  I decided today that I am not going.  A few of the people at work that I like aren’t going.  The rest, really don’t have any need to spend extra time with…  No offense but at least I didn’t name them by name.

Someone decided that he/she isn’t going, I am not surprised.  He/She has gotten pretty well screwed over as far as I am concerned.  I hope that the new person works out but I will miss ya.  At least I will be moving downstairs so I won’t have to interact with the new person at all.  I hope she fails, miserably…  LOL…  I know, evil, but that’s ok.

So, no Christmas party for me next week.  It’ll save me $30 – I can use the extra $$$ for my trip.  I will still participate in the gift exchange thing – the gifts go to charity so that is a good idea.

Got pizza & wings from Duff’s tonight – awesome food there.  Bob runs a good place – if you are in St. Catharines, I’d recommend it.

A relaxing Sunday all in all.  Went for breakfast to what we call the Greasy Spoon.  It is Golden Grill or something similar to that.  Doesn’t look like much on the outside but the food is great and cheap.  It is at the corner of Geneva and Welland in St. Catharines – give it a try.

Spent about an hour at work finishing some stuff that I didn’t feel like doing on Friday or the previous 6 weeks prior to that (maybe longer).  Oh well, it is done now.  Easier when the people who’s computers you are modifying aren’t there anyway.  Hopefully there won’t be any issues tomorrow – we’ll see.

Slept most of the afternoon away – had a 2 hour nap.  Watched the end of the Bills game, yet ANOTHER loss.  I’d say that the playoffs for the Bills are out of the picture.  I suppose that there is a chance that they could win out the season and make the playoffs but then again, there is a chance that I will win the next 6/49 and be able to retire…  🙂

Confirmed some of the details with my cousin Kim for my trip to Washington and South Carolina.  I will be leaving St. Catharines on December 16 and getting back on the 23rd or 24th.  Should be a good time.

Had dinner at Sister Joan’s.  That would be my sister, not a nun but I like the sound of “Sister Joan” – it also bugs her so that is a bonus.  🙂

Back to work tomorrow – just a 4 day work week since I am off on Friday.  If it is anything like previous weeks, it’ll zip by quickly.  Not a lot going on I don’t think but I am sure I’ll find plenty to do.

The Christmas season is nearing.  We have our department party on December 1.  I may nor may not host my holiday party again – I am thinking not though…  I am trying to save for my trip and all the extra $$$ will help.  I don’t want to run out of money 2 days before I get home.

Gotta get the laundry started – an end of another weekend.

What a lazy day today.  Got up early to let Zeus out, went back to bed, up again at noon and then had a nap later on.  I guess I was catching up on my sleep.

Nothing going on tonight, watching some TV – likely won’t be able to sleep until late.  Wonder why?

I think I have to go into work fo a bit tomorrow.  I have to catch up on some POA work – it’ll be easier since they won’t be using their computers anyway.  Won’t take me long, don’t know why I have been stalling at work on this – just one of those things.

The weekend is here.  It was a long week in some ways and yet in others the week went by very quickly.

I found out that a good friend didn’t get a job that EVERYONE thinks she earned and deserves comment deleted by author.  I don’t understand the reasoning behind it.  She will be with us until the end of the year and then will return to the labour pool.  Really sucks.  I am sure that she will find something else comment deleted by author pretty quickly, any of the departments should be happy to get her – comment deleted by author our loss.

So, this happens last week and this week she discovers that her cat has diabetes – the tests, etc., are really expensive – the cat was put down…  😦  Talk about a couple of bad blows in 2 weeks.  Life sometimes sucks.  I am sure that she will pick herself up and all will be well.

I know that the time will come when I will have to put Zeus down – I am hoping it never will though.  Better that he die in his sleep – I think that will be easier…  Not something that I want to spend a lot of time thinking about…

On another note, my passport arrived today.  I only applied to it last Thursday so that has to be some sort of record.  I am now free to travel, pretty much anywhere I want.  This will at least open the door for my trip to the States in about a month.  I am looking forward to getting away and relaxing a bit.  I am sure that the weather will be an improvement over what we normally get in St. Catharines that time of year.

Anyway, no real plans this weekend.  I do plan on sleeping in tomorrow – I feel like I have some catching up to do.

Another day gone.  They say that as one gets older that time goes faster – I must agree with that.  It is already November 19 – wow…

Uneventful day at work for the most part, nothing out of the ordinary.

Service guy was at my place tonight to fix my freezer.  Good thing about renting a place instead of owning a place is that the repair didn’t cost me anything.  Thanks Frank (my landlord).

Heading to Boston Pizza for some food, maybe a drink or two as well.  Weekend is almost here, only one day to go.  No plans to speak of for the weekend but that can be a good thing too.  I am sure I’ll do something but one never knows…

About blogging – Not sure what my intentions are here, this is my 5th entry.  I think that I will just keep posting on a daily basis (unless I get really busy or go to jail or something) and then look at a year from now and see what I’ve done and where I’ve been.

The next while should be interesting.  Christmas holidays are coming up, trip to Washington DC and Charleston, SC.  Lots of time off over the holidays from work as well – December 16 – January 4 inclusive.  It’ll be nice to get away.

Hump-day they call it, Wednesdays…  Busy day @ work today, the day flew by.  Hardware to replace all over the place.  Too many programs to reinstall – what fun…

Just sitting at home for the evening, taking it easy.  My sister called, she is at the emergency department of the hospital.  She is having some sort of chest pains, hopefully nothing serious.  She will give me an update later on tonight.

Two more work days this week – it is supposed to rain tomorrow 😦  Well, I guess it is better than snow anyway, too early for snow unless you are one of those skiing fanatics.

22:36 UPDATE – Sister is stil at the hospital, been there since 5pm or so…  Should hopefully find out shortly what’s going on.  Spent a 1/2 hour at her house to let her dog out – Chloe, dalmation, pretty good dog, seem to love me for some odd reason.  Zeus of course was sniffing all over when I got home – who’s that dog you were playing with…  🙂
