Oh Really?

So, after a week, a finally get a call from the Service Manager at Eastside Chrysler.  As some readers may know, I can be a bit sarcastic and I likely was with him.

He didn’t really have an excuse for not calling me, he did apologize a few times and that is fine and dandy, but, what I would really like more than an apology is an explanation.  Oh well.

So, he’s got good news (and today is backwards day).  They are NOT going to cover my repair under warranty.  Oh really?

There was negligent damage caused, presumably, by me.  There was dirt in the engine and this caused the damage.  I also drove the vehicle too far after it was damaged.  I would estimate that I drove less than 20km after it “clunked”.

So, not too happy about that.  I ask him what the repair costs will be.  He, of course doesn’t have this information – why would he, he’s only the Service Manager.  He’ll have someone else call me with that information.

So, some other guy calls me and leaves a message.  I had to listen to it twice to get it correct.  With tax, a new engine, parts, labour and tax will be just under $9500.  Yes, no problem – proceed with the repair, I carry that kind of cash in my change purse.

I will be fighting with them to get them to cover it.  I may lose, I may win.  I also have a third party warranty.  Who knows…

Anyway, wish me some luck fighting the evil Crysler Empire.  If Lee Iacocca reads, please contact me.

Back To Work

It’s Monday.  I know a lot of people don’t like Monday but those people must not like their jobs or something – I have nothing against Mondays at all.

Monday is also, for me, the first day of the week.  Some people say Sunday is the first day of the week – they are wrong, sorry.  It’s called the “weekend” – Saturday and Sunday, the week END.  Get it?  OK, so stop calling Sunday the first day of the week.

In my calendars in Outlook and on my phone, Monday is the first day of the week.  In printed calendars, not that I currently have any, I am pretty sure that Sunday is – I have never seen one printed with Monday at the start.  Someone get on that would ya?

Anyway, back to work this morning.  Today marks the end of my probation period at work.  I have meeting (phone call) scheduled for 10:30 with my boss.  I am also being taken out to lunch today, un-related to my probation being over.

I will also get an update on my Jeep today.  I have not heard from them since Wednesday afternoon.  I will call them before noon if they don’t call me.  So, bus and train this morning.  It’s raining too – that sucks.

Someone told me that Calgary is dry.  Personally, I don’t see it.  Calgary has been anything but dry.

Oh well – so what if I get a little wet getting to work.

Anyway, enjoy your Monday, the first day of the week and also, enjoy your week.

Umpiring Today

I had to arrange for a ride today so that I could do the double header that I am scheduled for.  Not having a vehicle is a major inconvenience.  I have had a car since I was 24 – very convenient.  I am sure that I could get to the park that I am going to via bus, in fact I know that I could, but, there is a fair amount of equipment that one needs to bring when you are umpiring.

Luckily, my partner said that he would pick me up – my thanks.

I am scheduled to umpire at the same park this coming Friday and then again on Sunday.  I do hope that I have my Jeep for Friday.  If not, I guess I will be emailing my partner for that evening and seeing if he can pick me up.  I will need to make some sort of decision by Tuesday or Wednesday I would guess – if I need to drop the game, I need to give the scheduler some time to find a replacement.  I don’t think that will be too hard right now as there aren’t too many games anyway so someone should take it without any problems.

I am doing the bases on Friday so I could take the bus there as well – not sure on timing.  It isn’t too far really, but I don’t know the bus routes to that part of the city – at all.  Guess we will see.

So, in short (and nothing I ever speak about is “in short”), I want my Jeep back.  Thank you.  🙂

The weekend

I was off yesterday – did I mention that?  Not sure…

Still no Jeep.  Still no call from the dealer that I took it to.  Insane.

I should have called them yesterday, but I got side-tracked.  I did call today but of course the service manager was not in.  I have NEVER heard from the initial service advisor that took me in when I brought it in on TUESDAY.  It’s now SATURDAY.  Brutal.

Well, once I get it back, I will be speaking with the owner or manager or someone and will tell them that I am not satisfied with the shitty customer service.  Will they care?  Likely not.  I hate dealerships.

Anyway, it was nice having yesterday off.  I didn’t do a lot.  I did go to a retirement party at a bar downtown, Amsterdam Rhino – good food and good drinks.  I would like to wish JF all the best in his retirement.

Today, I did some gallivanting with SH.  We had breakfast, went to Sunridge Mall then Cross Roads Market.  Not a bad day at all.

I actually made it through a weekend day without having a nap.  Imagine that eh?

Walked to Wal-Mart tonight to get the dogs some food.  They will be happy.  Well, mostly anyway.  Blondie is now back in her crate when I am not home.  She decided to do some chewing on the couch.  Didn’t do much damage to the leather, she chewed the underside of the middle cushion.  At any rate, she will be crated for a few months at least.  I will play it by ear.

Tomorrow, I umpire a double header.  I think it’s Senior ball so it should be all right.

Monday is my 3 month anniversary at work and is the end of my probation.  Next week I am off to Grand Prairie for 3 days.

Lots of fun coming up.

Great customer service…

As faithful readers know, my Jeep has been in for service for the last few days.

I brought it in on Tuesday – someone screwed up and didn’t book my appointment but that wasn’t a big deal, they took me in right away.

I was called an hour or so later and asked to provide my service records.  I faxed them in and was called again and told that I would be called on Wednesday.

By noon, I had not received a call.  I called the service advisor and left a message.  I still had not received a call back by 3pm so I called back and this time spoke with the service manager.

He told me that he would call me today, this afternoon to be specific.  Nothing.

So, my simple question is why do people say that they will call with an update or whatever and then not do it?  Do they not realize that I am without a vehicle and perhaps, just perhaps I would like to get mine back?  Do they care?  No, they don’t.

After the sale is made, they don’t care. They don’t care about the products they sell nor the people that they sell them to.  We’ve got your 40 grand, now, fuck off.

I think it sucks.  It’s not just the auto industry although that is a good example and a current example.

So, I presume that I will hear back from them tomorrow, but, I am not sure.  If I don’t hear back by noon, perhaps I will call again.

I can assure them of one thing.  They won’t get any of my future business – ever.  You know why?  Because you don’t care about your customers. All it takes is a bit of follow-up.  That’s it.

Well, there are lots of other Jeep dealers in the city of Calgary and perhaps, just perhaps, one of them will care.  We’ll see.

More on the Jeep

I had not heard from Chrysler this morning by noon so I decided to call them.  No answer from the service advisor so I left a message.

I still had not heard back by 3pm so I called their general number.  I discovered that the service advisor that I had dealt with the day before was off.  Nice.

OK, if you are going to be off, perhaps you should not say that you will call a person the next morning.  Just an idea here.  I think that a LOT of people have lost the ability to perform customer service.

Anyway, I spoke with the service manager.  He was helpful.

He called me back and although he “doesn’t know if it will be covered under warranty”, he’d like my permission to take the engine apart to see what the issue is.  Bull-shit you don’ t know – like the call isn’t yours and like all dealerships that I have dealt with, you aren’t going to do your best to stick me with the bill.

Well, you know something, that ain’t going to work with me.  You might be able to push some people around and bull shit your way into getting your own way and screwing over your customers, but, and this is a BIG BUT, I am pretty used to getting my own way and have been practicing for nearly 41 years.  Oh, and I don’t like being screwed over either.

So, I will hear back from him tomorrow.  I am looking forward to it.

Public Transit

Don’t get me wrong here, Calgary Transit is pretty efficient and reliable.  I can get to work in 40 minutes (including walking to the bus stop and walking from 7/7 to my office at 8/8) which is only about 15-20 minutes slower than driving.  I just don’t like taking a bus and train to work.  The bus ride is short – only about 5 minutes or so.  The train is a little crowded for my tastes though.  I don’t mind standing, I just hate being packed in like chickens being delivered to the slaughter house.

I left the house a bit earlier this morning, caught the 6:30am bus which connected with the 6:39am downtown train and it was far less packed than normal.  I guess I will make this my “normal” routine until I get my Jeep back.

Coming home, the train is not very busy.  I get on at one of the first stops so there is always a seat and then the bus is not busy either.  I don’t really care to walk from the corner to my house, but that is just laziness, plain and simple.

I will find out about the Jeep today.  I am waiting to hear (1) who pays for it and (2) how long it will take.  The 2nd part of that may take a day or two to determine.  They may start taking the engine apart and discover that it simply need a new Heisenberg Compensator.  It may need a new engine, although I cannot imagine that.  How can an entire engine go?  I will admit, I know nothing about vehicles (or nearly nothing), but to me, that doesn’t make sense.

Part 1 (from above) is the more important factor to me.  The Jeep is 3.5 years old and has 93000 some odd kilometres.  So, it is under warranty in both of those scenarios.  If Chrysler comes to me and for some reason says it isn’t under warranty, that will, well, it’ll “irk” me – to say the least.  I guess I will fight that battle if I have to.

It reminds me of my warranty issue with my 2003 Grand AM GT.

I was driving to work one day and the front end started to shake – this is not normal for a vehicle that one has had for a few days so I took it in immediately.

A couple of hours later, I received a call from the service manager at the dealer that I purchased the vehicle at.  She told me what was wrong – a cracked rim.  Wow, I thought – how does that happen?  The bad news – it isn’t covered under warranty…  WHAT?  I’ve had the vehicle for LESS THAN A WEEK.  Not impressed, to say the least.

So, back to the dealership I go.

The service manager was NO help at all.  The head mechanic said (off the record, which is now, 9 years later being recorded for the record) that he thought the damage was likely done when they were either loading or off-loading the car from the truck.  The sales guy (a friend of mine) was unable to help.  The owner said his hands were tied.

I had negotiated to be able to pay for a new rim (nearly $700) over a few pays so the owner was cooperative in that aspect.

In a happy coincidence, another friend of mine came into the dealership.  I told him my story and he wasn’t happy with this either.  He worked at GM at the time and was ordering two vehicles from this dealership on the day that he came in.  This friend, the owner and I talked and my friend handed the two car orders to me and indicated to the owner that if I wasn’t happy by the end of the day that I was free to rip those orders up and he would get the vehicles elsewhere.

Well, the owners hands were now tied and I had the upper hand.  What choice did he have?  None I would say.  He agreed to replace the rim for free.  I don’t know if the dealership paid for it or if he tried to submit it as a warranty claim, all I know is that I got the rim for free.

I don’t think that a friend disguised as my Guardian Angel will be around this time, it is doubtful anyway so I am likely on my own.

It’s a fight that I will fight if needed.  Wish me some luck…

The Jeep and what-not

So, I took the Jeep in for service this morning.  First off, they didn’t have me scheduled for an appointment for some reason even though I called them and made an appointment on Saturday.  Oh well, not a big deal apparently – they took me right in.

They asked if I needed a lift into work, I said yes.  When asked where I was going, the service advisor suggested that I take the train into work and that they would provide two tickets.  OK, that’s a good deal – thank you.

Anyway, about 9am or so, I got a call from the dealer and it wasn’t very good news.  She wasn’t exactly sure what was wrong, but the engine might need to be replaced.  D’Oh…

So, I had to send her a copy of the service records.  I don’t keep those, I guess I should and I should likely scan them in for the future – guess I will start doing that.  Anyway, I called Jiffy Lube in St. Catharines and he was more than happy to fax me a copy of the records and he did within 10 minutes.  I also got a record of the oil change that I had done in Calgary and faxed both of those to the dealership.

Now, apparently we have to wait until tomorrow (or so) for approval for it to be covered under warranty.  Well, it is 3.5 years old and has 93k (or so), so, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be covered.  If they give me bad news tomorrow, that will be interesting.

For those that know me, I am sure you know that won’t go over well.

I am not going to worry about it – we will see tomorrow.

At any rate, I will be without a vehicle for a week or so, perhaps more.  I have arranged to get a lift on Sunday to my double-header baseball game.  As for groceries and what not, they are just down the street so I am not worried about that.  I can take the bus and train to work for now and Zeus and Blondie will just have to get used to not having me home at lunch.

Finding a place to eat…

So we decided to go out to eat tonight.  The main reason being that my Jeep is not in optimal driving condition right now and it was pouring rain.  Someone told me that Calgary is in the middle of a desert climate.  OK, fair enough…  I am wondering though, have those people ever been to Calgary?  Thus far, I think it is the wettest place that I have ever lived.

I got sidetracked there…

I didn’t want to walk to one of the grocery stores to pick up steaks or whatever for dinner.  I txted SH and asked if she wanted to go to the Olive Garden for dinner.  OK, she says, yes.  Awesome – do you mind picking us up as well?

So, SH picks us up and off we go to the Olive Garden.  Well, there is at least an hour wait there.  Ummm, no.  Next door is Red Lobster.  An hour wait there.  Again, no.  Next to that is The Keg – the lineup is to the door.

Well, where to go?

Bill suggests going to Moxie’s.  I think that I mentioned it when we went to Earl’s on his first day, so, I program it in my GPS and off we go.

Food, atmosphere and company were great.  We were there from about 7pm until almost 11pm and had a good time.

Anyway, I didn’t think it would be such a challenge finding a place to eat on a Sunday night.  Maybe a combination of Stampede, rain, etc., forced everyone out of their houses and into a restaurant.

BP leaves in the morning.  I don’t want to drive the Jeep to the airport and back until it is fixed, so, unfortunately he will be taking a taxi to the airport.  I’ve arranged for it to pick him up at 05:00.  We are getting up around 04:00 – oh, won’t that be fun.

I hope that you had a good time BP – have a safe trip home !!!

Stampede, vacation – wrapping up

Today is the last day of the 100th Calgary Stampede and also the last day of my vacation.  It was a good week off, that’s for sure.

I did enough relaxing and enough running around doing cool stuff.

Made a couple of trips to Stampede.  BP, SH and I were there again last night – the fireworks were good.  Lasted 15 – 20 minutes and were being fired off from multiple locations around the park.

It did rain a bit but that didn’t spoil anyone’s fun.  SH bought herself a cowgirl hat – looked good on her.  Now she needs to get jeans and a pair of cowboy boots – in time…

My Jeep is going in for service tomorrow.  I am hoping that it will be covered under warranty and I think it should be – I still have power train warranty for another 6k or so.  I am dropping it off early and then taking the train to work.  Unfortunately, this will mean that BP will need to take a taxi to the airport – I don’t want to drive it 40-50km (return) in its present condition.  It is knocking quite badly and was also starting to over-heat yesterday.

I have to go out and check the coolant levels and also give it a good cleaning.  I purchased some engine shampoo so I am going to use that plus clean the interior again.

So, back to work tomorrow for me.  I am actually looking forward to it.  I was off for one hell of a long time before starting at BDO and I really didn’t need a week off as yet.  I head to Grand Prairie in a few weeks so that will be good. I am hoping that Zeus and Blondie don’t mind spending the few days in doggie day care.

Not sure what is on tap for today, other than cleaning the Jeep up some.  Our options are sort of limited since I don’t have a vehicle that I want to drive too much…  I think after I zip into the car wash, I will go across the street to the Co-Op to get some steaks for dinner and that’s pretty much it for driving for the day.

Well, the Stampede was fun – here is to another 100 years !!!
