Last evening, the dogs and I returned from the dog park and I thought I would go next door and meet my new neighbours. I was there for no longer than 10 minutes talking to them while they were on their patio.
When I got back into the apartment, my cell phone wasn’t where I left it – I left it on the kitchen island. I found it on one of the dog beds and the screen was smashed. There is absolutely no doubt that the guilty party was Apollo.
So, as I have written, I had the screen replaced on Saturday evening and a mere 24 hours later I need to get it replaced AGAIN and it will cost me another $349 +GST.
Apollo was not a popular dog last evening, to say the least. I think that I am going to invest in a crate for him as he cannot be trusted, at all. Apparently, anything that is within his reach (which seems to be extensive), he thinks it’s a chew toy. I cannot afford to keep replacing Pixel screens, that is not sustainable.
I need to wait for a couple of items to come into my bank account so I can replace the screen, did I mention, AGAIN? I will be reimbursed likely tomorrow (Tuesday) for massages I have recently gotten and I should receive a refund from having my car towed on Friday evening. That will pay for the screen replacement and likely a VERY protective case as well.
I suppose this is all part of having a puppy, although Blondie and Hera were puppies and didn’t destroy things on this scale. Blondie had a love of chewing shoes, just one of the pair though – a crate helped me there. Hera only ever chewed the stairs in one of my rentals and cost me my entire security deposit.
Apollo has now chewed and destroyed 2 cell phone screens, 3 pairs of glasses, several pair of underwear and t-shirts (from the dirty laundry basket), a pair of oven mitts, 3 pairs of slippers, some kleenex and 2 rolls of toilet paper. I am sure there are other items that I have forgotten about.
In general, when I am home he’s normally “good”. I guess he has extreme separation anxiety, even though Twix is always with him. I normally take my dogs most places that I go via car, so he’s not alone that often (I work from home), but, when I am out, a crate will stop him from destroying my house. A good plan I suppose, the only other option is returning him to the Humane Society and I don’t want to do that. So, for now Apollo, you are safe.
