There are good landlord and bad landlords. There are good landladies and bad landladies.
I’ve lived in a LOT of places since I moved out of my childhood home, 24 years there. In the 30 year since, I have moved more times than I can count, well, almost. I have probably moved 22 times. That seems like a lot because it is a lot. LOL
The longest I have lived in one place was in St. Catharines, a cool little house on Welland Avenue. I had a great landlord there.
Let’s see if I recall all the places I’ve lived
Grenadine Court, St. Catharines (1 year), townhouse, rented a room
Russell Avenue, St. Catharines (2 years), a weird apartment that a friend lived in and I took over when he moved – good landland, bad landlord
George Street, St. Catharines (a few months), a house all by myself, it was a small bungalow owned by a co-worker – good landlady
Elizabeth Street, St. Catharines (1 year), 4 unit apartment building – good landlord
Fonthill (1 year), an apartment/house, weird window looking into an abyss – good landlord
Haynes Ave, St. Catharines (1 year), upstairs of a house, hotter than hell in summer, colder than Pluto in winter – good landlady
Vine Street, St. Catharines (1 year), basement suite – weird landlady
Beech Street, St. Catharines (2.5 years), a 4 car garage converted into a small bungalow – great landlord, still friends
Rykert Ave, St. Catharines (a few months), the only large apartment building I’ve lived in – good property management guy
Welland Ave, St. Catharines (4 years), a great house with full basement and fenced in back yard – great landlord
Margery Ave, St. Catharines (1 year), a whole house and I rented out the basement suite to a weird guy – great landlady
42 Street in Calgary (1.5 years), a 3-bedroom townhouse, first place in Calgary, Forest Lawn – bad property management company, I would never rent from Mainstreet again
14 St (1.5 years), basement suite in Upper Mount Royal, the smallest house in the nicest neighbourhood in Calgary – good landlady
Ranchlands Ave (1 year), an odd 6-story townhouse, too many stairs – bad landlord
34 Ave in Bowness (1.5 years), a great 3-bedroom bungalow, fenced yard, garage – I would still be there if they hadn’t split up and needed to sell, great landlord, horrible landlady
21 Ave in Sentinel Alberta (1 year), I call it the shit house, it should have been torn down – bad landlady
22 Ave in Coleman (4 years), great full house, fenced in yard – excellent landlord
Balzac Campground (5 months) – a bad idea all around
Big Spring Drive, Airdrie (1.5 years) – I loved Airdrie, just not the house, excellent landlord and landlady
Ranchview Dr, Calgary (1 year) – 3 level townhouse, great neighbourhood, horrible neighbours (for the most part) and a terrible landlord
144 Ave / 1 St NW, Calgary – my second stint in a large apartment complex, should be great
So, I think that I have some Gypsy blood in my veins. I guess I like being able to move if I want to, never wanted to settle into one place.
Have you lived in more places?
