I really don’t like moving. Those of you who know me, and have known me for a long time would think, quite logically, that the statement is a lie, at best.

I lived in the house I grew up in until I was 24. That’s a record that I know I will not touch as I sort of doubt I have 24 years left, but I digress.

I moved a lot after I moved out of my birth-house. I think I may have gypsy blood in me. I have never purchased a house mainly because if I tire of a place, I don’t want the hassle of having to see. I prefer that I can give 2 months notice and find another place.

Well, Friday is the day. I have never lived in a brand new build before, no one has ever occupied the unit that the dogs and I will be in. That’s sort of cool to me. I am also downsizing, going from a 3-story approxinately 1500 sq ft home into a one level, 678 sq ft apartment with an enclosed patio. I have only lived in an apartment building once in my life, for a few months before I adopted Zeus. Since then, it’s always been a variety of houses, townhouses, acreages.

Apartment living will be a basically new experience for me. I won’t be able to just let the dogs out, I will have to go with them. That will force me to get some additional steps in every day though, and that’s a good thing. There is a small enclosed off-leash park in the middle of the visitor parking lot and the community dog park is a 10 minute walk away. Getting my 10,000 steps in daily should be no issue at all.

I have packed up some of my stuff, mostly clothes that I won’t need between now and Friday. I will pack up most of the kitchen and my knick-knacks today and will have the packing done by Thursday. I was smart this time around and have hired movers. I am getting too old for this, and i found a great deal. I am getting two movers and a truck for 4 hours total for $400. That’s a pretty good value I think. I am off next week so I can get everything unpacked and oeganized.

My new furniture will start to arrive in early March. My custom order leather sofa and love seat won’t arrive until August or so – in the meantime, the sectional sofa that I will use in the office will be my living room set for now. I am getting my TV wall-mounted on Saturday, they will mount my Sonos sound bar and surround speakers as well. I am looking forward to it all coming together.

On the downside, our mild winter ends today. The high for Friday is supposed to be around -15C. Well, at least we won’t get overheated when moving.
