I’m in Calgary today. I arrived yesterday afternoon for the Babe Ruth year end banquet. The drive up from Crowsnest Pass was nice and smooth and I made it to the hotel downtown in just over 2 hours. Not bad time at all.
The banquet was at the Met downtown, good food. We stopped at an Irish pub next door to the Met before the banquet for a couple of drinks and some appetizers. Thanks to the prez for picking up the tab.
Great to see the people I’ve been working with on the board for the last few years including some of the umpires I’ve worked with. The president is stepping down after this season, his 7th or 8th so he got some well deserved parting gifts. I’ll miss this bunch but who knows, I may be back at some point.
I’m staying at the Sandman. Not a bad hotel, going through some renovations right now so no pool which sucks… I was told that it was open when I called into the reservation desk, so as compensation, I get free parking which is great.
I’m heading to Red Lobster tonight for endless shrimp with a couple of buddies then heading back home tonight, likely back in Crowsnest Pass by 10 or so.
The dogs are in a kennel until Thursday morning, so I hope they enjoy it. I’m looking forward to seeing them early Thursday.
All in all, it’ll be a good day and a bit in Calgary, I’m sure. Sort of like a mini-getaway for me.
